Bundy-Finkel Architects was given a rare and satisfying opportunity to remodel a General Contractor's Headquarters they designed 20+ years ago. The remodel is for the family of racing legend Dan Gurney and transformed the 10,500 s.f. single story office / warehouse building in Irvine into a facility for the Gurney family's business, All American Racing, while also providing a showcase for a private collection from their father’s former professional racing experience.

Dan Gurney's sons, Justin and Alex Gurney, approached BFA to redesign the building to include a new 2,000 s.f.+ mezzanine with a bar and lounge inserted into the two-story volume highlighted by the existing roof with elegantly curving, exposed wood beams, and overlooking the open display area below. Two new stairs in a revitalized warehouse and work room in the rear of the building access this new area. Interior walls of several first-floor perimeter offices were removed to open the ground floor to display numerous race cars, motorcycles, and various other Dan Gurney memorabilia.

New linear wood ceilings with new lighting were selectively installed to display and illuminate the varied exhibits and photographs celebrating Dan Gurney’s long racing career. The custom environment was created to conduct their family business surrounded by significant exhibits that celebrate the history behind the company.

Many thanks to the Gurney family for allowing BFA to be a part of celebrating this racing legend's amazing history and contributions to racing.

We're excited to see forward progress on two new projects: Victoria Place 40-Unit Mixed-use and Encino Village Shopping Center.

Victoria Place is currently in its Design and City Entitlements phases of work while Encino Village is starting Design Development/Construction Documents with construction estimated to start towards the end of 2024 or beginning of 2025.

Construction Documents have commenced for the Holt and Grove Ontario project. The client, ESR Wheels, is now thinking of making it their corporate headquarters and is very enthusiastic about the project, despite a large number of hurdles we had to overcome with the city. We're looking forward to construction starting the beginning of 2024.

Some updates on the firm's current industrial projects:

Work is progressing on the design and entitlements for the 42,000 s.f. Temescal Canyon Industrial project, the 14-Building El Toro Elsinore Industrial Park, and the 8,000 s.f. Pomona Road Industrial project - all for Co Brothers Investments who were also responsible for our recently-completed 7-building Doolittle Industrial park in Riverside, California.

Also in for entitlement processing is the 22,000 s.f. Ontario Holt and Grove project for ESR Wheels with construction expected to start later this year.

Construction is also well under way for the 25,000 s.f. Jurupa Valley Industrial project slated for completion in Q3 2023. The project is one of many speculative warehouse/storage buildings for our client and already has tenants lined up for purchase.

2023 is proving to be a banner year for industrial work for BFA, and 2024 is also looking to see a large focus for the firm in that market sector.

Literally years in the making - construction is nearing its end for the Wilshire Granville project, rechristened "The Now" by the client.

BFA has been pleased to act as the Architect of Record for this exciting development working with Landry Design Group as the Design Architect,, Brandow-Johnson as structural engineer, and Salas O'Brien as our MEP engineers.

We look forward to seeing the final result first quarter 2023.

Good progress is being made on two of our retail projects currently under construction: The 4-Building Citrus-Valley Center in Fontana and the 2-Building Tustin Ave. Retail Center in Santa Ana.

Starbucks has already come onboard as an anchor tenant in the Tustin Ave. Retail project, and Freddy’s Steakburgers and El Rey Tacos have already signed up for the Citrus-Valley Fontana center.

We look forward to both projects being completed towards the end of the year.

11 years in the making - The new Wild Rivers Water Park located in Orange County's Great Park in Irvine had its soft opening on July 10 with large, enthusiastic crowds enjoying the great weather and amazing new rides.

Bundy-Finkel Architects congratulates all of the team members who worked so hard, and for so long, to bring this to fruition. Now it's time to go get wet!

Construction continues for the Wild Rivers Water Park in the Great Park, Irvine, CA

The buildings and rides are now well under way for the Wild Rivers Water Park moving towards a Summer 2022 opening date. It's been amazing to see these structures rise in the distance as the park takes shape.
