Hough Home Improvements LLC is going to branch out into making custom coffee tables, end tables, stools, outdoor furniture, and dining room tables. The style I am thinking of is something like what is in the attached pictures.
Discaimer: pictures are not of my work. They are representative of the style and type of furniture I can make.
If you have your own design in mind, feel free to reach out to me!

I have been very busy working and realized I haven't posted any of my work to this page in a while. Here are some pics of a couple of rock columns at the end of a driveway that I did for a customer. Each column is made out of whole stones/boulders and measure 5'x5'x10'. The lights on top were custom made in Milwaukee and the antique gates date back to the 1800's and are from a farm in Illinois.

Caring for your granite counter tops is a lot easier than you might think. just follow these simple steps and they will look like new for years!

Granite has been one of the most popular materials for counters in kitchens and baths since the early 2000s. Granite is everywhere. It isn’t as porous as marble, so it is less prone to soaking up oils, spills and stains. That said, prevention is key with granite countertops. Mop us spills as soon as they happen so they cannot pe*****te the surface.
Granite is extremely resistant to bacteria, an important consideration for kitchen counters in particular. And the granite in countertops has been sealed to make it stain-resistant. To keep the glossy shine for which it’s prized, you need to clean granite counters regularly and carefully. Here’s how to clean a granite countertop.
First, wipe the counter surface with warm, soapy water and rinse thoroughly. You can also use a 50:50 solution of isopropyl alcohol and water. Don’t use vinegar, Windex or bleach on granite. Frequent uses of these acidic substances will dull the granite and weaken the sealant. Don’t use abrasive cleaner or pads, either, because granite can be scratched. The good news: You don’t need specialty cleaners for granite. It’s OK to use those products, but you’re paying for a product you don’t need. Mild soap and hot water will do just fine.
Knowing how to clean countertops means knowing how to remove stains. To remove stains from granite, make a paste of baking soda and water. Gently scrub the spot with the paste and a soft cloth. Rinse thoroughly. It may take several tries to get out a tough stain. For an extremely tough stain, put the paste on the spot, cover with plastic wrap and tape down the edges. Let it sit until the paste dries. This can take a couple of days. When the paste is dry, use a soft cloth to wipe away the paste. Rinse with warm water.
To put a shine on your granite put a little cooking oil on a soft cleaning cloth and wipe it across the countertop. Buff it gently. This makes the counter a little bit stain-resistant and gives it a glossy shine. Even if you know how to clean countertops correctly your granite will need to be resealed periodically. Normal wear and tear will wear the sealant off, leaving the counter dull and susceptible to stains. Resealing granite counters is a job best to left to professionals; don’t DIY this one. Plan on having your granite counters resealed every two to four years. Knowing how to clean a granite countertop will make the sealant last and keep the counter beautiful for years.

I get asked by my customers all the time, what is the best way to clean my hardwood floors?

3 Simple Steps To Keep Your Hardwood Floors Looking Good:
Take your shoes off! When you walk on a wooden floor with dirty shoes, you are leaving lots of sand and dirt behind. These abrasive particles can ruin your wood floors. Position mats both outside and inside exterior doors to lessen tracked-in dirt. In snowy or rainy weather, include a boot removal area to avoid damage from water and de-icers.

Next, make sure to get rid of dirt and grime with a vacuum or dust mop before you attempt to wash a wood floor. Rubbing dirt into your floors is never a good idea. Dust the floor with a mop that has been treated with a dusting agent (or use a microfiber duster) to pick up dust, dirt, and pet hair.

For occasional deep cleaning (dirt, oil and grime will build up over time), the best solution for cleaning wood floors is one cup of vinegar mixed with one gallon of water. Immerse a clean mop into the solution and wring it until it is damp-dry. Mop the floor in the direction of the floorboards, so if the water dries with a bit of a streak in it, it will not be as visible. After mopping, use a soft, clean towel to dry it or let it air dry.

If you want to get a little creative….steep 1 bag of tea in 2 cups of boiling water and leave until it comes to room temperature. Remove tea bag and soak cloth in liquid, wring out then wipe floor clean. Dry with a soft cloth. The tannic acid in the tea will help bring wood to a shine.

Finally….after cleaning your hardwood floor, if you find any scratches, here’s a simple trick to try:
Take a crayon the color of the floor and rub it on the scratch to fill the gap. Turn a blow dryer on high, heat the area where the crayon was applied and buff it with a soft cloth.

Keep these simple wood cleaning tips in mind, and your wooden floors will sparkle all the time.

This bird feeder was another project I really enjoyed doing. The customers original feeder has seen better days (see pic) and asked if I could build them another one. They wanted the feeder to be a light color and not made out of cedar. So, I used pine and stained it in Cadots, golden honey color. I then gave it five coats of clear, satin, urethane. The feeder measures 30 inches by 25 inches by 24 inches high. I fabricated all the brackets and hangers for the smaller feeders to hang off of. If you want a custom feeder, let me know I can build whatever you can dream up!

A client asked me to restore this custom carved bear that was given to them by a close friend many years ago. As you can see time, ants, and the elements were not kind to it. After cutting the bear off the base just below the feet, removing all the rott and getting rid of the ants I could start the restoration. I made a new base from the bottom section of a tree I cut down a couple of years ago. I repaired the ant damage and rot using my own reinforced epoxy wood filler. I had to repair the arms, back, feet, parts of the face, construct new orbital sockets and reinstall the glass eyes. I used the same carving techniques that the original artist used and painted it the original colors followed by three coats of satin polyurethane. This was a super fun project for me. If anyone would like me to restore their carvings please reach out to me.
