So recently I was tasked with getting a couple of early 90’s Range Rovers up and running for a friend. Both vehicles are within a year or two of each other and in very different states, both don’t run but both have good bones to work with. This week after getting the proper service manuals for them, started digging into the first vehicle, well call this one “Daisy” the other will be referred to as “Helga” because she will be more of a mad max apocalypse vehicle. So Daisy has a now fuel condition, so after some verification on the circuit and establishing that all the right signals are making it to the fuel pump, decided that the problem is in the fuel tank. I pull all the wiring and hoses off and unscrew the baffle nut to remove the fuel pump assembly and notice right off the bat that the connector clips are all broken and have zip ties holding the connector to its base. Ugh, gonna be one of these jobs already. Here’s some pictures of what I had to deal with yesterday. Rotten wire connectors that crumble as well as dry rotted hoses, a seized fuel pump and rust gallor! Most of this isn’t sold anymore or as a complete unit, so a lot of finesse is needed to ensure that everything goes back together smoothly. So first things first, need a new fuel pump to mate back to the assembly and to drain out all of the kerosene that’s in the tank. I’ll be walking y’all step by step through this restoration effort and once that is finished, the owner wants to do
Some customization to the second one. Y’all have a good weekend.
