As the outdoor temps skyrocket here is a little something to help you know what to expect out of your Air Conditioning System. Remember the 20 degrees rule.
The 20-degree rule for air conditioners states that you should not set your thermostat more than 20 degrees cooler than the outside temperature. This is because most air conditioning systems can only handle a 20-degree difference between indoor and outdoor temperatures. For example, if it's 95°F outside, you should set your thermostat to at least 75°F. If you set your thermostat to a cooler temperature, your air conditioner will have to run almost constantly to reach that temperature, which can increase your utility costs.
If it is in the upper 90’s outside, your unit is running almost continuously to hold the lower 70’s and even mid 70’s, it is doing all it is designed to do. Systems are designed and sized for 12 months of operation. This extreme heat only last a few weeks out of a year. Do not let this be a cause of concern. It is operating normally.
