As the outdoor temps skyrocket here is a little something to help you know what to expect out of your Air Conditioning System. Remember the 20 degrees rule.

The 20-degree rule for air conditioners states that you should not set your thermostat more than 20 degrees cooler than the outside temperature. This is because most air conditioning systems can only handle a 20-degree difference between indoor and outdoor temperatures. For example, if it's 95°F outside, you should set your thermostat to at least 75°F. If you set your thermostat to a cooler temperature, your air conditioner will have to run almost constantly to reach that temperature, which can increase your utility costs.

If it is in the upper 90’s outside, your unit is running almost continuously to hold the lower 70’s and even mid 70’s, it is doing all it is designed to do. Systems are designed and sized for 12 months of operation. This extreme heat only last a few weeks out of a year. Do not let this be a cause of concern. It is operating normally.

Hey Friends.
It’s about to get really cold for the first time. Many of you have heat pumps that have not yet ran in heat. Over the next few days those heat strips will kick on for the first time. When they do a burning smell is normal. However it should only last a few min. Then you shouldn’t smell it again until next year. If you have any issues with your heating system be sure to give us a call.

A little home training for you guys.

Folks often misunderstand the purpose and operation of the average room Tstat. It’s purpose is not to control how cold or how fast air comes out of the vents. Your residential AC works much different than your car AC.
Your car will mix outside and inside air, turn the compressor on and off, to regulate the temp of the air as it blows in your face. Therefore a cars tstat controls more the air temp than the car temp. Your home tstat works much different. It will keep the unit running at full capacity until the room itself reaches your desired temp. For instance if you have it set to 72 and the room is 74 it will run constantly and at full capacity until it reaches that set point. If it’s not doing that you have one of two issues going on. Either it’s not running at top performance or it’s challenged by extreme heat. Older units often loose a little capacity. If it’s 98 out side, your running a couple degree behind that is nothing to fret about. However if it freezes up and stops cooling give us a call. You have real issues.
As a side note. If you turn that thing way down to 60 thinking it will help, your mistaken. If you fail to turn it back up before bed you may wake up to a block of ice. That unit will run as hard as it can until it reaches 60 or just flat lays down. If the set point is below the room temp on your tstat and isn’t reaching that set point give it a few days. If it starts lagging way behind or starts freezing up give us a call. We are here to serve.
