Winterizing Tips ❄️
💧 Let faucets drip
If you’re worried a pipe may freeze, slightly open the faucet fed by that pipe so it drips slowly. This relieves pressure in the system, which helps prevent pipes from bursting.
• If the faucet has hot and cold water, open both slightly
• For single-handle faucets, set it to warm
🚿 Insulate exposed pipes
Pipes in garages, exterior walls, attics, and outdoor areas are most at risk. Use foam pipe insulation and secure it gently—avoid forcing it on.
🚰 Protect outdoor faucets
Disconnect garden hoses and install insulated hose bib covers on exterior faucets to prevent freezing.
🏠 Open cabinet doors
On especially cold nights, open cabinets under sinks to allow warm air to circulate around pipes.
🌡️ Maintain consistent heat
Keep your home heated, even if you’re away. Set the thermostat to at least 55°F to help prevent freezing.

Important Reminder
Please don’t panic or handle your plumbing roughly. Many accidental breaks happen while insulating pipes too quickly or forcefully. Slow and steady is best.
