I told my daughter I wanted to reorganize my spice cabinet and so underneath the Christmas tree appeared the spice jars and labels.

However, what I was not prepared for was the jars to not sit well on the plastic organizer I already had. One tiny bump would send the jars flying out of the cabinet. After looking online and either not liking the price or not liking the product design for the cabinet my son and I decided we liked the idea of the drawer.

We decided what drawer to covert and that was an issue because ALL my drawers were too shallow for all the online items. I just about threw in the towel when I got my second wind and thought I can figure this out and build my own. I don’t want to start the week with my kitchen a mess and a project undone.

…So….

1) I found these plastic shelves I had leftover from a project I used in my office for displaying photos.

2) I raided David’s trim stash for leftovers and played around with the height to make sure my drawer would still close.

3) Cut my shelves and trim to fit my drawers.

4) Double stacked the trim and hot glued it to the bake of the shelves and BAM!! SPICE DRAWER that holds 20 (notice the even #) jars!

Fun quick little summer project.

I used stuff I had laying around. The green frame is solid oak, I believe, and is from an upcyled coffee table I used to have on my back porch. The rest of it was MDF and after several years outside it finally gave up. The pickets were in my garage and I’d been hanging on to these grain scoops for awhile. I think I purchased them from Marlis. Of course, it waters itself or I wouldn’t have it🤣

Volunteering to host Thanksgiving sure can put a “rear in gear” as we call it at my house. I got my act together and finally refinished the chairs so my family would have a place to sit when they came to eat. I also remembered I dislike refinishing chairs as much as I dislike exercise equipment … 🥱 BORING 😑 same ol’thing 8 TIMES IN A ROW! But the reward is great! I can park my rear in a good, sturdy, solid chair now. I do believe in our 27 years of marriage this is the first dinning set we’ve had that has a beautiful table big enough to hold us all AND chairs that look nice and don’t fall apart if you move wrong. John will be thrilled that I don’t plan on selling this set anytime soon and that it might last long enough to bequeath him in about 50 years, The Good Lord Willing, of course!
Also, a big thanks to Ben Garcia for answering my questions in the store about the paint/sprayer!

I never really got good pics of Gerti’s upgraded cauldron before it went up for storage. These photos don’t show the webs very well or the spiders that made them. But it’s ok. Gerti was glad that she no longer appears to be a novice behind her cauldron. It’s well used. Last year a girl aged 9-10 maybe 11 asked “is the smoke real?” I told her “no, but the bones are” then proceeded to call her younger brother by his name and she asked how I knew his name. I replied “all good witches know the names of the tastiest, sweetest children” …. I didn’t see them come by this year🤷🏻‍♀️

Tomato cage witches found on Pinterest. Although I had to alter things from Pinterest to add my own touches but more to keep the Texas wind from destroying them, and I can already tell I’ll have to alter again. Hopefully they’ll last these last few weeks. Video of my “fire” in comments. Thanks to my friend for helping me!

Painted a background for my little Halloween village.

BE SURE TO LOOK IN COMMENTS FOR VIDEO YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS IT—

Now, I’ll be studying trying to decide which piece to get next; it’s hard to choose! Then there’s all the little figures I need to get and Kerstin challenged me to make my own roads and paths for it. —whew—I have so much to do for the next Halloween. I better get started 🥴

(a big thanks to my grandkids and their mom and dad for purchasing my first piece of this collection which was the pumpkin tree).

Apothecary Shoppe center piece completed…I think…until I find something else gross….

I had the black and white bottles for several years. David found them along the train tracks. The purple one was just a clear bottle that I embellished with a wine cork, twine, twigs, watered down acrylic paint and Dollar Tree necklaces inside. The holder the bottles are in I was gifted many full moons ago. Either for my birthday from family or possibly even back in my Xi Delta Gamma days from my secret sister. It is actually supposed to hold a jar candle like a yankee candle. Labels/and basket sign were pieces of the paper products/signage from DT. Webs are cheese cloth. Skeletons were tied with twine to the candles rather than glued because I use those for nearly every season. Bookends, big spider, creepy cloth, mini skeletons and hands came from DT. Eyeballs & tiny spiders I had in my collection. Tiny skulls came from Amazon, I believe. The basket underneath my sister found awhile back and it stays on the coffee table. I’ve been changing it for the seasons. This is my first Halloween with it and if you know me, you know I started thinking about Halloween in January 🤣It’s fun!

I needed some spooky books for my Apothecary Shoppe coffee table center piece. I found napkins, signs, and paper plates at the Dollar Tree that worked perfectly for my theme. I photocopied parts and pulled some pieces from the sign and got busy. In person the covers have a “skin” look. I’m not sure if it’s animal or human skin… you decide (insert witch cackle here)

Next few posts will be Halloween crafting. I’ll show you the coffee table piece and stay tuned for Gerti the Witch’s embellished cauldron. She deserved a cauldron that looked as “practiced” as she really is. She definitely is not a newbie with her talent. 🧙‍♀️🕷️🕸️🎃

I couldn’t find a coffee table for my back porch that 1) didn’t require much maintenance for outside or 2) that fit the small space I have on the back porch. It needed to be long and narrow. I don’t have any before pictures. The black metal is literally the foot stools that came with the patio furniture. I took off the cushions and we cut two boards (from my brothers property) lengthwise to fit the width we needed and also to the length we wanted. The leftover pieces we used for the garden markers. We took care of two problems in one solution. We were able to eliminate the foot stools that were more of a tripping hazard, always dirty with dog prints and ended up in the corner of the porch and we have a cute little table that requires absolutely no maintenance

I haven’t worked on any craft projects for a VERY long time. I needed to settle some things but this year I told myself I was getting these little garden signs done. On the back I stapled the seed packet so I can remember the variety I bought. My brother allowed to me take some wood off his property a few years back and we used them to make a coffee table for outside (pics another day) and I used the left over pieces for the signs. My son made the pattern for me with a new computer program he’s trying to learn. Hopefully these will only require a quick seal each season and they definitely aren’t going to blow away in the Texas winds. I may decide to hang them on the planter boxes rather than lean them against—what do you think? Hang or lean?

No before photos, guess I never posted this and now I don’t have it anymore. Just wanted a record incase I need ideas.

I hope everyone is doing well. We’ve been in full swing reno for the last few years taking long breaks when our backs (and wallets) were broke! We are coming closer to end. I just need to paint trim and cabinets in the utility room. That task will probably have to wait until after basketball/track season but will need to be finished up before spring and my busy work season starts.

As we’ve been working in each room I have taken the time to go through every closet and drawer and really purge. That resulted in a pretty MASSIVE garage “reimbursement display 😜” this summer. I never thought I’d have that much stuff. Every January I purge items so I didn’t really think I’d have much. Boy was I wrong.

As I’m cleaning and organizing, I decided I would share some organizing tips for renovation leftovers that some of you may find useful. In this post I’ll show you that getting rid of those 1/2 full/ near empty quarts/gallons of paint is simple and saves so much room. I used a label maker or asked my favorite paint store when they’re mixing my paint for an extra label.

The cup with the green lid is called Frog Tape Touch Up Cup. It has a little ball in it like a protein shaker bottle. The white lid containers I ordered from Amazon. It is CSBD brand. Make sure you look for air tight seal. I kept the frog tape boxes so the cups would stack nicely on my closet shelf.

Writing on tubes of caulk where you used it is good reference/reminder. I used a magazine rack to old the tubes. The plastic wasn’t quite strong enough and I will keep my eyes peeled for something better. Lastly, using Glad Press n Seal wrap on the tips help it keep open tubes from drying out so fast.

Now when I notice a chip or ding on walls/trim it will be easy to grab and little cup and fix quickly.
