Defined by low profiles and extended lines, this outdoor seating arrangement creates a sense of openness that settles naturally into the landscape. The sectional forms a continuous edge, while layered textures from the woven rug to the softened cushions add depth without excess.

The earlier landscape designers are brought into the process, the more aligned the result becomes. Architecture, interiors, and landscape are developed together, allowing each decision to inform the next.

A structure alone doesn’t create a place—the landscape does.
Here, the architecture is grounded through columns, axial movement, and layered planting—transforming a secondary structure into a destination within the landscape.

What once felt like a leftover space now reads as intentional, connected, and complete.

What if the landscape were approached with the same level of consideration as the interior?

Not as an addition, but as part of the whole. When the layout, materials, and furnishings are considered together, the space begins to feel unified. Movement becomes more intuitive. The space is more rooted. It’s not always obvious at first. But once it’s there, you notice the difference immediately.

When we’re part of the conversation early, the landscape can shape how a home sits on its site. We can respond to grade, light, and movement in a way that informs the architecture rather than follows it.

It’s not just about planting or materials. It’s about thinking through how you arrive, where you gather, how indoor and outdoor spaces relate, and making sure those decisions are resolved from the beginning.

The earlier we’re involved, the more seamless everything becomes. Not just visually, but in how it all works together.

In Progress | The Arc of Order

For this Buffview project, we set out to bring a sense of structure and continuity to how the landscape is experienced day to day. A new pool pavilion anchors the space with a custom kitchen and dining area, while surrounding updates to planting, decking, and hardscape are shaped to reflect the home’s classical architecture. Each element from the tennis court to the fountain and seating areas is aligned, resulting in a landscape that feels composed, intentional, and naturally integrated into its setting.

A fire feature has a way of shaping how a landscape is perceived.

It doesn’t need to sit at the center of activity to be meaningful. In this project, we positioned the fire pit on a secondary terrace, set apart from the main circulation to create a quieter place for gathering. Surrounded by planting and blurred by distance, the space feels more intimate. A destination within the landscape, rather than an extension of it.

Grateful to be included in and to contribute to a broader conversation on how outdoor spaces can be lived in more thoughtfully.

Form influences how a space is experienced—but so does provenance.

A vintage Bonacina rattan chair, paired with a custom performance cushion, brings history, texture, and ease to the outdoors.

We often mix collected pieces with contemporary elements to create something more personal, more lasting.

The most successful landscapes are shaped in advance, with a clear understanding of how they’ll evolve through the seasons. By the time everything comes into bloom, it feels natural, effortless, and complete.

Spring is when it fully unfolds. The real work starts long before.

If you’re beginning to think about your outdoor spaces, now is the moment to begin.

We’re currently planning for the seasons ahead—reach out to start the conversation.

I’ve always believed a landscape should feel aligned with how people live in it.

For this 100-year-old Federal-style home in Highland Park, the goal was to create a stronger connection between the house, the garden, and the experience of being there. The space was reworked with intention, refining what already existed and making it feel more resolved.

We introduced new hardscape elements to integrate with the existing oval stone terrace, layered planting to define and soften, and furnishings that support gathering, dining, and rest.

The landscape now supports a way of living that feels grounded, cohesive, and at ease within its setting.
