Bonded labor, also known as debt bo***ge or debt slavery, is the most common form of modern slavery worldwide, trapping millions of people in cycles of forced exploitation.

Every one of our artisans is a survivor of this form of modern slavery. And for many survivors, freedom is only the beginning. One of the biggest obstacles they face after being freed is finding safe, dignified work that allows them to build a life without falling back into cycles of debt and exploitation.

That’s where Mended comes in.

We’re able to pay our artisans an above-living wage, giving them the opportunity to build a future without the constant financial stress of simply trying to survive. We’ve heard from our team that they’re building homes, sending their children to college, and putting food on the table without the same fear and uncertainty they once knew.

This is what restoration can look like: not just freedom from slavery, but the freedom to dream, provide, build, and thrive!
