nobody loses their mind faster than a first-time dachshund puppy parent. ask me how i know. 😅 There are three things that are essential in those first few months!!
1. Pet steps, from day one. Not when they’re older, not when it becomes a problem… day one. Dachshunds have long backs and fragile spines, and every jump off the couch is a gamble with IVDD. Teach them the steps while they’re tiny and it becomes their normal route up. (This rule is so personal it’s literally why I started my company.) While we’re on the topic, PLEASE get pet insurance 🙏
2. A good cleaning combo. Puppy parenthood is a messy situation. There will be accidents on the rug you love most, or maybe even your brand new couch (Tysm, Ziggy). It’s basically a right of passage. An enzyme cleaner that actually works + folex will save your fabrics, your sense of smell, and your mood. Pro tip: buy the big bottle.
3. A waterproof blanket. For the couch, the bed, the car seat. This one is so cute (reminds me of the viral bubble blankets), affordable ($54 on Amazon for the big size), actually p*e proof (tested many times, unfortunately), and washes well.
You guys, puppy blues can be HARD. Try to remember they’re literally just babies with pea sized brains and you WILL get through this 🤣 In the meantime, w**e is always there for you.
What was your saving grace during the puppy phase??? Drop the tips below!!
