***Aht, Aht...

I know it's a beautiful day out in the DFW Metroplex, but don't go out there and throw down fertilizer just yet, too early!

Below are some tips you should know before you do.

First of all, between today and the next week or so, cut low and put down a pre-emergent. This keep weed seeds from germinating.
(Repeat again between October & December)

1) Kill the weeds first.
A. Identify the weed. Is it a grassy weed or
broadleaf (leafy) weed.

B. Find the appropriate weed killer/herbicide
for that weed.

C. Kill the weed

2) Fertilize your yard. (after the weeds die, cut low, not too low and then fertilize)

A. Identify the type of grass you have.
B. Use appropriate fertilizer for your grass
type.
C. Follow directions on bag, which will tell
you to water before or after application

Final Tip....

If you're not going to water your yard at least twice a week, DISREGARD this post....💯

***What a difference a few years make.

When I started on this customer's yard back in 2017, it was a new build and the yard was full of weeds and dead grass.

Was able to treat it and manicure it, has it looking alot better. You can see the difference by the dark green color, which are pics from this year, the lighter pics are from 2017.

Everyone wants a nice yard, but want cheap service or won't follow the tips you give them to achieve their yard goals.

Glad she trust me to do what it takes and maintain/manicure the property.

*** If Only You Knew...

This is some of my best work to date. When I first started on this yard back in June, it was mostly weeds (Johnson grass, barnyard grass, clover, etc) and dirt.

The customer said she wanted green, plush grass at her new house. My first priority was to research what type of weeds she had and find out how to get rid of them.

What I didn't use was any kind of Weed & Feed, it's not what you need to treat your weeds. Over the last few months, I treated the weeds and also I threw out some Bermuda grass seeds.

So what you see below is the finish product. Now if we can only keep her MF'n neighbors on both sides to stop cutting on her side of the property line. 😠😠😡😠😡😠

***That Moment When...

Your work speaks for itself and they want you to come back out and resod the rest of the front yard.

Tip #1 When laying new sod, never place it over old sod. What happens is the grass underneath heats up and eventually will kill the new grass in a few years.

What I did here was cut the area on my lowest setting, using my bag. And instead of using a tiller to turn the dirt over, I used my weedeater to get to the dirt and weed out any old grass.

Next I will put down some Top dressing and starter fertilizer before i put down the grass and then some more starter fertilizer on top of the new sod and water it in.

You want to keep the new sod moist, so that it doesn't dry out, I suggest once in the morning and then again in the evening for the first 2 weeks, then water on a schedule 2 to 3 times a week.

With a proper fertilizing, water and maintenance schedule, and dont let your yardman cut it low, (mower setting should 5, 6 or 7) you will have the best yard on the block!!
