“Window terms homeowners shouldn't need a dictionary to understand.”

Low-E. Double-pane. U-factor. SHGC. Argon.

Window shopping can start sounding like another language pretty quickly.
But you shouldn’t need to be a window expert to make a smart decision for your home.

A few terms worth knowing:
Low-E glass: A coating designed to help control heat transfer through your windows.
Double-pane: Two panes of glass instead of one, with an insulating space between them.
U-factor: Measures how well a window keeps heat from escaping. Lower = better insulation.
SHGC: Measures how much solar heat comes through the window.
Argon gas: An insulating gas sometimes used between panes to improve efficiency.

On a windy day, hold a piece of paper near the edges of your window. If it moves, outside air may be finding its way in.
