PRESERVING OUR NATION'S BUILT HISTORY

As we approach this country's 250th birthday, we celebrate all that this country offered to immigrants whose homeland and its people were forced to leave crippling poverty and hunger to pursue the promises of the New World. Unknown to us, when we were hired by clients who bought the Questad Farm, was that the Texas Hill Country was the largest Norwegian diaspora west of the Mississippi River in the 1850s.

Questad Farm is a 19th century property on the National Register of Historic Places and is one of the few remaining groups of structures of the early Norwegian Settlement of Norse in Bosque County, Texas. Built in the 1850s, it is currently comprised of five stone buildings and hundreds of feet of intact dry-stack stone walls, some as tall as eight feet. The Questads were among the eight original Norwegian families who came to newly formed Bosque County in 1854 for its abundant wood, water, and 320-acre land grants from the state.

We researched, restored, and designed this farm and its interiors, to accomodate the new owners and leave as much as we could undisturbed for future generations to appreciate about its past. It's a living history museum of the Karl and Sedsel Questad family and their descendents, occasionally used for gatherings of the patrons of the Bosque Museum and historical societies.
