After eight months of waiting, it's finally time to find out if my garlic crop was a success!

Today I'm harvesting hardneck garlic from my raised beds, sharing the signs that tell you when garlic is ready, showing the best tool for digging garlic, and walking through the proper curing process for long-term storage. Plus, we'll hang the garlic in my parents' old barn and talk about saving your biggest bulbs for fall planting.

If you've ever thought about growing garlic, I hope this video encourages you to give it a try. It's one of the easiest—and most rewarding—crops in the garden.

The cottage garden is transitioning from spring into summer, and that means it's time for a few important edits!

Today I'm sharing the simple maintenance tasks that help keep this garden looking lush, colorful, and organized all season long. We'll prune amsonia and baptisia, deadhead penstemon and other perennials, discuss why perennial gardens still require maintenance, and deal with one of my biggest garden challenges—rabbits.

A few minutes of maintenance now pays huge dividends later in the season.

What plants look good together?

Today I'm sharing some of my favorite color combinations from the Garden Center and showing how you can use annuals, perennials, shrubs, and foliage plants to create beautiful containers and landscape beds.

From classic white and purple combinations to bold chartreuse and burgundy foliage, these pairings can help take the guesswork out of designing your garden.

Which color combination is your favorite?

The garden finally said, "It's time."

After several days of beautiful rain, the soil is moist, the temperatures are warm, and conditions are absolutely perfect for planting summer seeds. Today I'm direct sowing some of my favorite flowers and vegetables, including Italian zucchini, yellow squash, Pro Cut sunflowers, Benary's Giant zinnias, specialty zinnia blends, and cosmos.

The beds aren't perfect. The weeds are certainly enjoying this weather, too! But gardening isn't about perfection—it's about recognizing opportunity when it arrives.

Come spend a humid Southern gardening day with me as we plant summer and talk about why direct sowing is one of the easiest and most rewarding ways to grow flowers and vegetables.

Sometimes a plant isn't struggling because you're doing something wrong—it may simply be in the wrong place.

In today's video, I'm sharing my best transplanting tips as we move a hydrangea that's getting too much sun, transplant native Christmas ferns from another area of our property, and find permanent homes for Ascot Rainbow euphorbia from winter containers.

We'll talk about reducing transplant shock, choosing the best weather conditions for moving plants, responsible stewardship of native plants, and one of the most important gardening lessons I've learned over the years:

🌿 Right plant. Right place.

If you've ever wondered when to move a plant, how to transplant successfully, or whether a struggling plant should get a second chance, I think you'll enjoy this one.

Months of planting, watering, pruning, and waiting are finally paying off!

Join me on a cool, rainy North Carolina morning as we revisit several garden projects and see how they've progressed since planting day. From a surprise lupine bloom and garlic that's almost ready to harvest to lush shade gardens, colorful annual displays, and beautiful Proven Winners Heart to Heart® caladiums, there is so much growth happening around the gardens right now.

One of the greatest joys of gardening is seeing the transformation that happens over time. Today's video is full of reminders that patience in the garden is always worth it.

The 2027 plant trials have officially begun at Creekside! 🌸🔥

Today we planted dozens of brand-new annual introductions from multiple breeders to see which plants can truly survive our North Carolina heat, humidity, clay soil, and tough garden conditions.

Not every beautiful catalog plant performs well in a Southern garden… so we’re putting them to the test!

Over the next several months we’ll be sharing the successes, the failures, and hopefully discovering a few future Creekside Champions along the way. 💚
