I saw metal pieces sticking out all over our new construction house, so naturally I had questions.

Are we building a luxury home or a robot?

My husband tried to explain brick ties like a professional builder. Then he reminded me that I once thought the v***r barrier was a giant trash bag.

Excuse me for being curious. Someone has to keep this construction site entertaining.

He knows how to build houses. I know how to make his job interesting.

Everyone around us went with siding. We went all brick. 😏

Not because it’s the easy choice — because when we build, we think about what’s going to last.

Durability. Better fire resistance. Thermal performance. And, of course, the look. Because if we’re calling it luxury, it better look and feel like luxury.

Just a tiny change…

The kitchen is already framed, everything is planned, and then I show up with a better idea.

In my defense, the other side has better light, more windows… and ChatGPT said the energy is better.

My husband’s face says everything.

One day they’ll call us lucky.

They won’t see the sleepless nights. The risks. The setbacks. The arguments. The moments we questioned everything. They’ll just see what we built. But we’ll remember standing on an empty piece of land with nothing but a plan and then standing inside the house that once existed only in our heads.

No shortcuts. No easy road. Just two people, one dream and a decision to keep building even when it was hard.

Everyone thinks the biggest expense in construction is materials, labor, or upgrades…

My husband knows better.

He builds the houses. I make sure the budget stays… ambitious.

Me: realizing I’m the “somehow.”

Apparently when your husband is a builder, every crazy renovation idea suddenly becomes “totally doable.”

Husbands, be careful when she says “WE should renovate…”

Tag the person in your relationship who comes up with the ideas… while YOU figure out how to make them happen.
