This one has been an incredible transformation, and we’re getting close to the finish line!

What started as a kitchen and family room renovation turned into something MUCH bigger!

Over the years, the back of this beautiful old Craftsman Foursquare had been added onto, and added onto, and added onto again. The result was a strange collection of rooms, awkward layouts, ridiculously low ceilings, and some pretty questionable construction.

Then demolition started, and we discovered that much of the foundation and framing at the rear of the house was in terrible condition. What began as a first-floor renovation quickly became a major reconstruction of the back portion of BOTH floors!

Downstairs, we relocated the kitchen to the rear of the house, created a huge island and open family room, added a proper pantry, powder bath, bar, and much-needed storage. We also raised the ceilings and completely reorganized how everything flows together.

Upstairs, we eliminated some crazy changes in floor elevation, redesigned the primary suite, bathrooms, closets, and laundry, and transformed an old screened sleeping porch into a beautiful enclosed sunroom and spacious primary closet.

And through all of this, we were able to leave much of the original front portion of the house untouched!

A huge shoutout to Kate Thacker Home for the beautiful interior design, finishes, colors, and details. Everything is coming together fantastically!

And to Isaac Martinez and the crew at Isaac Martinez , who have tackled some serious construction challenges and done an amazing job bringing this project to life!

Still a little work to go, but I couldn’t wait to share a walkthrough. Can’t wait to see this one completely finished!

The sequel

You’ve seen what we’re doing to the outside. Now let’s step inside.

Here’s a little interior tour of our 1925 North Clinton Tudor, showing off some of the spaces, details, and character hiding behind that storybook facade.

A little more room, without losing the magic.

Built in 1925, this Kessler Park Tudor cottage is now 101 years old. Our goal was to nearly double the square footage while keeping it feeling like the same sweet little Tudor Revival cottage it always wanted to be.

We added a second story with simulated half-timbering, but instead of simply adding another floor, we carried the original architectural language upward.

The new front gable repeats the decorative teardrop-cut gable trim from the original entry, while a smaller gable was added over the existing leaded-glass windows. We’re also reworking the original elliptical entry arch into a more Tudor-appropriate half-circle arch, with matching brick continuing into the new gable above.

The result is a bigger house that still feels small, whimsical, and full of character.

Because adding square footage doesn’t mean you have to lose the charm that made the house special in the first place.

Spent the morning in Kessler Park photographing and inspecting this charming Tudor cottage on North Edgefield. It definitely needs some love, but it has incredible bones and so much original character worth preserving.

Over the past week, I’ve been working with the homeowner to finalize the floor plan, and I’m excited about the direction this project is headed. Rather than covering up the home’s history, she’s committed to restoring many of the Tudor details that were unfortunately removed during a previous renovation.

It’s always rewarding to work with clients who appreciate the architecture they’re entrusted with. Looking forward to helping bring this beautiful home back to life and seeing it regain the character it deserves.

I went to measure a house over on Rosemont yesterday...
And ran into one of the craziest features I've ever seen in a house. I don't know if it's cool or creepy..
What do you say?

OK, I think this might be my last update on the project in , at least on the interior, as the owners are moving in this weekend!
