Homeowner called us for a small drywall repair. He got a 14-year mystery solved.
A DFW homeowner noticed a little mold on his closet wall and figured he needed some patching and paint. Simple, right?
Not quite. That closet backs up to a bathroom remodeled 14 years ago by a budget contractor. Our moisture meter read 30–50% moisture in the surrounding materials — a sign of an active leak, not a cosmetic problem.
Once we opened it up, here's what 14 years of hidden water had done:
🚨 A 6" cut in the original shower pan liner (made during a past "repair") let water escape behind the built-in tub
🚨 Leaking faucet joints added to the problem
🚨 The result: rotted, moldy framing in the tub deck AND the wall studs and plates
🚨 Bonus find: a shower niche installed with no header — wouldn't pass inspection
We remediated the mold and rebuilt it the right way — new plates, studs, tub framing, and deck.
The takeaway? A small stain can hide a big problem, and the cheapest remodel often costs the most in the long run.
