🌿 Survey Season = Tick Season 🌿

Our civil and land surveying crews spend countless hours outdoors helping projects take shape across the region. From wooded property lines to overgrown project sites, they’re often working in prime tick habitat.

A few simple precautions can help reduce the risk of tick bites:

✔ Wear long sleeves and pants when possible
✔ Use EPA-approved insect repellents
✔ Stay on cleared paths when practical
✔ Perform thorough tick checks after field work
✔ Shower and change clothing promptly after returning home

Some essential oils, including cedarwood, citronella, peppermint, eucalyptus, lavender, and lemon, are often used as natural deterrents, though they should not replace proven tick-prevention methods.

As we head into the busiest months of the field season, a reminder to all outdoor workers: stay aware, stay protected, and stay safe.

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe believed in harmonizing nature, architecture, and human life, aiming for a higher unity. This philosophy is evident in his designs, such as the Farnsworth House, where expansive glass walls blur the boundaries between indoors and outdoors, integrating the structure with its natural surroundings. Mies van der Rohe's approach promotes a seamless connection between human dwellings and the environment, fostering a sense of tranquility and unity with nature.

This milestone represents more than a building expansion. It reflects a continued investment in advanced manufacturing, innovation, and the future of the region’s economy. We are proud to have supported Weidmann throughout this project and to have collaborated with the many partners who helped bring this vision to life.

We are always proud to support the great work that CIAO SHOF of the Berkshires has been doing in our local community for the past 21 years. Recognizing student-athletes through scholarships that reward dedication both on and off the soccer field is a wonderful tradition, and the award ceremony on May 14 was truly special.

The inductees who came before shared thoughtful advice and inspiring stories with the newest scholarship recipients, creating a meaningful full-circle moment. Congratulations to all of this year’s recipients, and thank you to CIAO for your continued commitment to our community. Keep up the great work—we’ll be cheering you on every step of the way!

Love seeing projects like this that encourage kids to build, create, and think bigger at a young age.

What a fun community event and a great opportunity for families to be part of something special for the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular and America250.

The Berkshire Athenaeum has been selected, along with three other libraries state-wide, to participate in a hands-on fun LEGO® event to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence.

The Library will host a LEGO® Flag Build to help create a giant American flag out of LEGO® bricks that will be part of the 2026 Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular. The annual July 4th concert, led by Keith Lockhart, will headline Massachusetts' America 250 celebration on the Charles River Esplanade.

This build will take place on Saturday, June 6, 2026 from 10:30a.m. to 12:00p.m. in the Library’s auditorium. This all-ages, free event is open to adults, teens, families, and youth of all ages, while supplies last.

We are proud to be part of today’s ribbon cutting celebration for the expansion project at Weidmann Electrical Technology and grateful to have provided the architectural and structural engineering services that helped bring this important project to life.

This multi-phase project included the construction of a new storage warehouse, a major addition to the fabrication building with critical infrastructure upgrades, and the rebuild of the existing board machine — all contributing to an additional 30% increase in production capacity.

The facility manufactures pressed board products primarily used in electrical transformer boxes and insulation systems supporting critical power infrastructure.
