Rick found “Gold” in Dania Beach‼️
High-quality Dade County Pine, which we will Mill into planks at our factory for future repair projects in South Florida homes that were built in the late 1800’s to early 1900’s 💫
Here’s why Rick was so excited to find this wood:
💥History of Dade County Pine💥
-Dade County Pine, a remarkably dense, insect-resistant subspecies of Southern Yellow Pine, was the primary building material for South Florida and the Florida Keys from the late 1800s to the 1920s.
-Prized for its durability and structural strength, it was heavily used for flooring, beams, and siding in historic homes.
💥Historical Significance💥
-Florida's early development relied on local resources, this slow-growth pine was the standard for construction in the 1890s, especially with the expansion of the Florida East Coast Railway.
💥Physical Properties💥
-The wood's immense density—resulting from old-growth trees—made it largely impervious to termites.
💥Usage💥
-Historic homes used this pine for everything from floor joists and framing to fine Tongue-and-Groove flooring.
💥Evolution of Use💥
-Early 1900s: Used abundantly, sometimes overlooked as a cheap material, and often hand-nailed during installation.
💥Scarcity💥
-Following the rapid development and subsequent land boom, virgin-growth Dade County Pine became increasingly rare.
💥Reclamation💥
-Today, this iconic, durable wood is typically sourced from renovations of historic buildings. -Reclaimed, "old-growth" Dade County Pine is now highly valued for its stability, rich color, and historic character.
