When we say that firefighters are needed across the county, we’re not exaggerating. Volunteerism across the country is extremely low and your local fire departments are suffering. Earlier today, the Madison VFD was alerted to assist the Danville Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. with a possible commercial structure fire in Danville. Fortunately, there were no injuries and no fire was found, because we responded with 2 firefighters, 2.
The need for firefighters is very real and is being felt by every department across the county. We’ve been asked, why did it take 4, 5, 6 fire departments to fight a house fire? Because everyone’s numbers are low. We’re usually not in a bind needing equipment, we’re in a bind needing more people.
Two firefighters wouldn’t make much difference if we’d found this commercial structure to have been on fire today. So, we’ll reiterate what we’ve said a thousand times before, we are so very thankful for the continued support of our community, but, we need people. We’ve got some of the best equipment in the world right here in Boone County, but without volunteers, it will sit in a fire station, useless.
