We just freshened up a deck we keep stain on every 2 years. We put on a transparent natural finish oil base stain to revitalize the wood grain. This deck sits right on the golf course in Quail Creek and now freshened up just in time for the homeowners to sit outside and enjoy the Springtime.

Today was my son Noah's first day working with us. I broke him in good with washing a deck we're gonna restain next week in Quail Creek. He did a great job helping his old man and we had an awesome time getting it done.

We did some exterior work down in Barnwell these past few weeks on some columns, porch ceilings, trim work and front mahogany doors. We turned the old wood ceiling a baby blue and did some extensive bondo repair work on the columns. We got it all finished up just in time for the homeowners to enjoy the Spring out on their porches.

Well, it's been 10 years since Old Bay Painting Company was started back in Dec 2015. Tommy and I started out painting with my old man Gene Taylor back in the early 2000's. He was one of the most respected painters in the area back in his day and he taught us so much. We did a lot of great work on a lot of the historic homes on the bayfront in Point Clear, Daphne and downtown Mobile with Dad, as he taught us lots of technique, tips and tricks along the way. Learning from working around some of the best painters and carpenters around at the time really gave Tommy and me a good foundation of skills to eventually take off on our own once we were ready years later. Dad retired in 2005 from full time work, but stuck around for the next few years as part time painter helping us here and there when we needed him. We worked for the next 7-8 years off and on part time painting, working at Austal and also some other jobs that got us through after the 2008 crash. Tommy moved out of state to places like South Carolina, Texas, and eventually found his way back home again. I moved out to Montana in 2015 and painted out there most of that year and met some good friends out there. But I missed my home on the bay, so at the end of that year, I decided to move back home and start a new painting business. Tommy and I got back after it full throttle and started Old Bay Painting Company in Dec of 2015. The first few years were a definite struggle with figuring out what type of painting we were gonna specialize in, what was in demand and what kind of painting jobs we enjoyed doing the most. It's been a rocky road, but we finally figured it out and keep striving to get better and better at what we do and look forward to doing so for years to come. We hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a great New Year! Here's to 2026! 🍻

Just wrapped up some dark stain work on this beautiful 2 story house in the Firethorne neighborhood in Fairhope. After giving the whole house a good washing, we had a mix of refreshing the varnish on some of the shutters and doors along with some stripping to bare wood and refinishing on others. We also stripped down the front porch columns, refinished them, and freshened up some of the exterior paint, porch ceilings and floors as well.

We've been taking full advantage of the cooler, dryer weather the past few weeks to knock out as many of our mahogany door jobs as we can. These sets of double doors in Spanish Fort and Fairhope got some much needed attention. Hopefully we can squeeze a few more in just before the holidays arrive. 🍗 🎄

We just finished up a very interesting mahogany door unit in Fairhope. This one had quite a bit of variation in color of the wood all over. The etched glass with the crabs and shrimp definitely fits right in here on the Eastern Shore.

Just finished up some much needed maintenance painting at Gold Mine Pawn Shop in Daphne. After a good washing and a couple coats of fresh blue Duration, we brought the faded walls back to life. That Alabama sun gives it a beating.
