Just a reminder that today is Open House for The Vaughan House at 408 E Home Ave from 10:00 - 4:00. I know you've been following this restoration project and today is your chance to check it out.

There's room to park in the back yard but because my brick mason never made it, you'll have to walk around to the front. You can also park along 2nd Street in front of the Coker Freshman dorms.

I'm canceling tomorrow's open house due to the incoming rains from the tropical storm so this is the last chance for the general public. After today I will only have scheduled visits for potential buyers and agents.

We'll not 100% complete but it's close and this is the only chance I'll have for the next 5 weekends, so come on out now. If you're an agent, please identify yourself. Thanks. I look forward to seeing you.

Taking bids for a brick mason to build a set of steps. Job is in Hartsville.

Steps shall be 45-48” wide 55” long and 35” high (5 steps) and parged to be similar to the front steps. (2nd picture) Concrete pad will already be poured.

Mason will provide all materials and labor. Separate the brick price in your bid because I may have some bricks given to me. Paid in full upon completion. No deposits or advances.

A little follow up to the kitchen photos from the Vaughan House restoration. I set the last few remaining cabinets today in the island build out. About two more days of doing all the finish and trim work and it’ll be time to call The Granite Store Design Center and order my counter tops.

Who needs THIS MUCH cabinet spaces?

Question for you. I sanded the pine flooring but because the boards aren’t good and flat, they don’t sand clean with the machine. Carol likes them just like this. My only other option is to hand sand which still won’t remove all of the old stain. Whatcha think?

Cool story for you. As you know, Ryan Britt and I are restoring the Leonce Vaughan House at 408 E. Home Ave in Hartsville. Built in 1908 and never occupied by anyone but the Vaughan familly, with the last occupants being Charles Vaughan, his wife and two girls. I’m told that the house has been empty since about 1982ish and basically abandoned.

I bought the house in 2022 and we started the full time restoration work in December ‘23.

Yesterday, we’re leaving for the day and I see Ryan lean over and dig something out of the dirt. It was a High School ring partially sticking up from the ground with only the slightest bit visible. The ring is from North Fulton HS, (Atlanta area) class of 1955 and has the initials J.O.L. inside.

Part of the love of taking on these restorations is doing research on the family(s) who built and lived in the house and last summer I met a woman named Leslie (Vaughan) who is the great granddaughter of the original owner and one of the last Vaughan occupants.

As it turns out, J.O.L. Is her mother (deceased) and they moved out of the house prior to 1980. I guess we’ll never know how the ring ended up being buried in the dirt but we know it’s been there for at least 45 years.

Leslie lives in Winston Salem and her sister lives in Lexington but we’re gonna reunite them with their mother’s ring in a couple of weeks when they return to Hartsville.
