Tree Amigos Growers will be CLOSED this Wednesday & Thursday (Sept. 28 & 29) the safety of our team and yours.Heavy rainfall associated with rainbands may lead to flooding across all of South Florida. Rainfall totals may range 4 to 8 inches through Thursday with locally higher totals possible. Flash flooding will be possible in this environment.South Florida continues to be under a tropical storm warning 🌬️, flood watch 🌧️, and tornado watch 🌪️. Please take all necessary precautions, and keep our friends in the west coast of Florida in your thoughts. Be safe out there!

📢 Official statement from Barbara McKenzie & .farm | Preserve David’s Farmland 📢

“Mack's Farm is a local tropical vegetable farm that aims to feed people in South Florida.

“With food scarcity on the horizon, it is important that we invest in our farmers and in farmland.

“We have been farmers all our lives and have seen so much in our 60 years — food shortage is the most
important issue that America will be facing in the coming years.

“It is within the rights of the land owners to do what they want with their property, but we are asking the
community to help us continue to grow food by helping us secure farmland. The time is now!”

🚨 URGENT: We need your help protecting 27 acres of farmland!

On July 27, 2022, the town council of Davie will be casting their final vote to determine if developers will receive the necessary allowances and permits to build a new housing development, with 2.3 houses per acre, on the corner of Flamingo Road and Orange Drive, where Mack's Farm (ran by Mrs. Barbara McKenzie) currently stands.

We're asking you to support us in the following ways:

1 - ✍️ Sign the petition at treeamigosgrowers.com/preserve-davies-farmland, so we can show the Town of Davie and developers that residents want to Preserve Davie's Farmland. We need at least 250 people to pledge their support.

2 - 🪧 Join us on July 27, 2022 at the Town of Davie meeting, from 6:30pm - 7:30pm, to amplify the voice of the farmers and make it known that Davie wants farms. We need at least 100 people to show up.

🗣 Please SUPPORT and SHARE this post with your friends and family that are part of our South Florida farming/gardening community, especially those who live in Davie.

Potential Tropical Cyclone One, located in the southeastern Gulf of Mexico, is expected to strengthen to a tropical storm later today. Heavy rain will affect portions of central and southern Florida and the Florida Keys through Saturday. Considerable flash and urban flooding is possible across south Florida and in the Keys. Isolated tornadoes are also possible in south Florida through Saturday.

Your support is urgently needed tonight...

Around the corner from our farm, a farming friend Barbara McKenzie leases a 27 acre vegetable farm that is being sold to developers. This sale is going to displace 10 different small vegetable farms that lease the land as well as erase the production of food for over 13,000 families.

We’ve lost our farmland before and we refuse to sit back and watch it happen to Mrs. McKenzie and her group of farmers.

The town of Davie has a meeting tonight to rezone this property from agricultural to residential.

What plants are more vulnerable to cold damage and need protection? 🤔 Let us guide you.

Cold tolerance depends on preconditioning of weather gradually becoming colder.

In our region, cold tolerance can be weaker than other regions because we can go from 70 degrees to 30-40 within a day period 🥶.

HARVEST WHAT YOU CAN BEFORE A FROST OCCURS.

• Plants with cold tolerance may not die but can still show damage at higher temperatures. • Some plants may look like they completely died back but can regrow from the roots.• (ifas.ufl.edu) is a great resource to find the exact hardiness of tropical fruit trees.
