SHASTA DAISY 'STARBURST'

Up for sale are overwintered clumps of the perennial Shasta Daisy variety 'Starburst'. This tremendous perennial asks so very little and gives so much. These plants are drought tolerant and deer resistant. They bloom from early summer to mid-summer. They are stunning in mass plantings. They want full sun or part sun. and well-drained soil.

'Starburst' adds movement and a touch of whimsy to borders, mixed perennial beds, and cutting gardens. Its unique petal form and bright coloring attract both admirers and pollinators, while its upright habit provides vertical presence without bulk. Excellent for adding flair to white-themed plantings or creating contrast among more traditional blooms.

These are vigorous, hardy plants with sturdy stems growing to about 30" high.

You will get loads of enjoyment from these. They will add such color for a long time.

I grow the plants in "clumps" of 6 to 8 plants. The clumps are just $10 each.

All sales are by appointment, generally Monday through Saturday 10AM to 5PM on the half hour. Contact me right away to pick up some.

Payment is by cash, local check or PayPal. Pickup is at my location in Deerfield MA. Delivery will be considered for sizable orders. Mass sales tax will be added to all orders picked up or delivered in Massachusetts.

Go to my dedicated page to see all my current offerings in one place:

These plants are not from Canada or New Jersey or Georgia like you will find at national chains. They have spent their entire life right here. I personally start everything that I sell from seed, no pre-started plugs, no shortcuts. I grow plants the old-fashioned way.

Connecticut State Champion Oak Tree saplings From Bushnell Park

Have you spent time admiring the large stately oak trees at Bushnell Park and wished you could have your own version? Well now you can!

Up for sale are saplings grown from the acorns of Bushnell Park's famous Connecticut State Champion Oriental Oak and Connecticut State Champion Turkey Oak trees. I gathered acorns from these trees in November 2022, then began germinating them in March 2023. I transplanted young sprouts in the ground that summer and have left them there until now. They have now gone through two winters and are strong and healthy. They are itching to get away from a place where they are just a foot apart from each other. They want their "forever homes" where they can grow, thrive and life a full oak tree life.

A note on the pictures: the last eight are the actual saplings for sale, with the variety and price listed.

Oak trees love as much sun that you can give them. They also grow fine in part shade but will be shorter than their full sun relatives.

I leave the trees in the ground until they are called for. I will carefully dig your tree out for you and place the roots in a container with soil mix. You will want to put it back in the ground right away, so nothing dries out. The tree isn't going to have a root ball, but it will have a long main root plus side roots. When you are digging the hole, you will want the center to be deep enough for the entire length of the main root. I will give you some time-release fertilizer that you can mix in with the soil. Once the hole is filled in, tamp the ground firmly, compacting the soil around the tree. Add extra soil if needed to make the hole level to the surrounding ground.

It is a good idea to: sink a pole, such as a 4- or 5-foot tomato stake into the ground next to the trunk. You can even secure the trunk to the pole with ties. You could also use something stronger such as a 4- or 5-foot-high fence post. This will help the tree to grow upright. You could put 2 to 3 inches of mulch over the bare ground. It is also a good idea to erect a small cage of chicken wire or rabbit netting around the base to help keep animals from chewing on the young tree's bark.

Your tree may experience some short-term transplanting shock. Do not fear! It has a strong root structure and has gone through two winters outside. Once it gets reestablished and the roots take hold, it will start to "put on weight".

Give your tree plenty of room to expand. We don't know if it will eventually grow to the size of the parent tree but give it space to make its statement.

The price for a 2-year-old Connecticut State Champion Oriental Oak or Connecticut State Champion Turkey Oak sapling varies by the size, though these trees are all the same age.

Available are, pictured in order:
Turkey Oak
1 @ $25
4 @ $35 each
1 @ $45

Oriental Oak
6 @ $25 each
6 @ $35 each
3 @ $45 each
1 @ $55
1 @ $65

All these trees are the same age, though there is a wide range of sizes currently. Over time, they might end up being of a similar size.

Payment is by cash, local check or PayPal.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP IF YOU ARE INTERESTED. I DON'T KNOW IF I WILL EVER GROW THESE AGAIN. WHEN THEY'RE GONE, THEY'RE GONE!

FREE Impatiens for Overwintering Indoors; Support Ukrainian Orphan Care

I have a quantity of pots of wonderful Impatiens that I will not be able to overwinter. I am having a total knee replacement surgery a month from now and that will be physically impossible. Not wanting to see them die with the frost, I am giving them away to good homes. If you would like, you can put something in the payment container. Those funds will go to support urgent orphan care in Ukraine through the Sunflower Seed Initiative's partnership with Lifesong For Orphans.

https://www.facebook.com/FoThChOfUk/

The plants are of various colors. They can be found at the end of my driveway at 557 River Road in Deerfield MA. This is a self-serve operation, so no appointment is needed. The payment receptacle is on the table with the plants.

HURRY OVER FOR THE BEST SELECTION...WHEN THEY'RE GONE, THAT'S IT.

We all love impatiens. In many warmer climates they can survive as perennials as long as they grow in a shaded location. We call it "zone envy". Sadly, for us however, as soon as the first frost arrives, they die. That is, unless you purchase a pot of impatiens that you can overwinter indoors and then plant next May outdoors in the shade.

I have just the solution. I have a small quantity of pots of impatiens available for just this purpose. I started these plants from seed back in the spring and kept them in a shaded place during the heat of the summer. Now they are ready to be yours.

You can keep them outside in a shady place, bringing them indoors when frost is expected. When the weather becomes consistently cold, bring them indoors for the duration. Enjoy them during the fall and winter and put them outside after frost in the spring.

Impatiens like it a bit on the dry side so resist the temptation to water daily. This is especially important indoors, where watering once a week or so is sufficient. If you have access to a spray bottle, you could mist a water-soluble plant fertilizer on the leaves a few times a week. This will keep the plants looking fresh while not flooding the roots.

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A GORGEOUS HARDY SHADE PERENNIAL?

The answer is the absolute stunning 'Midnight Lady' variety of Ligularia. This is a hardy shade loving perennial that has so much going for it. It forms a mound of large, rounded, purple-blushed dark green leaves with maroon undersides. Taller stems appear in midsummer, bearing clusters of bright golden-orange daisy-like flowers. It wants constantly moist soil.

It can tolerate wet soil. This is a great option to plant near water.
You will want to plant these about 36" apart as they will grow to 24" to 36" high and also wide. It makes a great border plant. If you purchase several, over time they will fill in and almost create a hedge-like appearance.

The bloom time is mid to late summer into the fall.

A not about the pictures: the last 6 are some of the actual plants for sale. This plant is a first for me.

You will get loads of enjoyment from these. They will add such color for a long time. Even when they are not in bloom, the foliage is stunning.

The price is $15 for 2-3 plants, to be planted together in your chosen location.

All sales are by appointment, generally Monday through Saturday 10AM to 5PM on the half hour. Contact me today to reserve a slot.
Payment is by cash, local check or PayPal. Pickup is at my location in Deerfield MA. Delivery will be considered for sizable orders. Mass sales tax will be added to all orders picked up or delivered in Massachusetts.

Have you spent time gaping with mouth wide open at the immense Pinchot Sycamore tree on the banks of the Farmington River in the Weatogue section of Simsbury, Connecticut? It is the largest sycamore tree in the state of Connecticut.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinchot_Sycamore

Have you ever thought you might want to have your own? Well now you can!
Up for sale are saplings grown from the seeds of this famous tree. I gathered seeds from the Pinchot tree in November 2022, then began germinating them in March 2023. I transplanted young sprouts in the ground that summer and have left them there until now. They have now gone through two winters and are strong and healthy. They are itching to get away from a place where they are just a foot apart from each other. They want their "forever homes" where they can grow, thrive and life a full sycamore tree life.

A note on the pictures: the last five are the actual saplings for sale.

Sycamore trees love full sun and as much water as you can give them. Notice where the parent tree is growing--very close to the Farmington River.

Give your tree plenty of room to expand. We don't know if it will eventually grow to the size of the parent tree but give it space to make its statement.

The price for a 2-year-old Simsbury Pinchot Sycamore sapling varies by the size, though these trees are all the same age. Available are
4 @ $25.00 (about 15 inches tall)
10 @ $35.00
12 @ $45.00
10 @ $55.00
1 @ $65.00
1 @ $75.00 (over 6 feet tall)

The difference in height is mostly a product of where the trees are growing. The shortest ones are in total shade, and the tallest ones get much more sun. Placed in a sunny location, the shorter ones will catch up to the taller ones over time.

Payment is by cash, local check or PayPal.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP IF YOU ARE INTERESTED. I DON'T KNOW IF I WILL EVER GROW THESE AGAIN. WHEN THEY'RE GONE, THEY'RE GONE!
