When a commercial medical facility in Gardner experienced an HVAC leak that impacted four floors, our team at SERVPRO responded immediately to help minimize disruption and prevent further damage.

Water losses in commercial buildings — especially medical facilities — require fast action and careful planning. What may start as a small HVAC leak can quickly travel through walls, ceilings, and floor cavities, affecting multiple levels before it’s even visible.

🚨 Why catching leaks early matters:
If left untreated, water intrusion can lead to:

Structural deterioration

Damage to insulation, drywall, and flooring

Electrical concerns

Secondary damage such as mold growth within 24–48 hours

Our crews worked through the weekend to stabilize the facility and keep the recovery process moving. We deployed:

Commercial extraction equipment to remove standing water

Air movers to promote rapid evaporation

Dehumidifiers to control moisture and prevent secondary damage

Air filtration devices (AFDs) to maintain air quality and capture airborne particles during drying

In healthcare environments, time and containment are critical. Quick mitigation not only reduces repair costs but also helps protect indoor air quality and the health of occupants.

If you manage or own a commercial property, routine inspections and immediate attention to even minor leaks can make all the difference. When water damage strikes, our team is ready to respond — day or night.

At SERVPRO, we recently completed a mold remediation project in Northfield where proper containment was critical to protecting the rest of the property during the cleanup process.

When treating mold, it’s not just about removing what you can see — it’s about preventing cross-contamination. Mold spores are microscopic and can easily become airborne during demolition and cleaning. Without proper controls in place, those spores can spread to unaffected areas and create a much larger issue.

🔒 Why proper containment matters:
We established a sealed containment barrier around the affected area using heavy-duty plastic sheeting and controlled access points to isolate the workspace and protect unaffected areas.

🌬 Creating negative air pressure:
A key part of professional mold remediation is generating negative air within the containment. Using HEPA-filtered air filtration devices, we created controlled airflow that pulls air into the contained space and filters it before discharge. This prevents airborne spores from escaping and helps maintain a safe environment throughout the remediation process.

👀 What to look for if you suspect mold:
• Musty or damp odors
• Visible staining or discoloration on walls or ceilings
• Peeling paint or bubbling drywall
• Past or ongoing water damage
• Increased allergy-like symptoms indoors

Remember — mold growth is a symptom of a moisture problem. Addressing the source of water intrusion is essential to long-term success.

Proper containment, negative air, and thorough remediation procedures are what make the difference in restoring a safe, healthy environment. If you have concerns about mold in your home or business in Northfield, we’re here to help.

❄️ Cold Weather Alert: Protect Your Pipes ❄️

With freezing temperatures moving in, now is the time to protect your home from burst pipes and water damage. A simple step like leaving faucets dripping can make a big difference. Moving water is less likely to freeze, which helps relieve pressure inside your pipes.

Here are a few things to watch for:

• Reduced water flow or no water coming from a faucet
• Frost on exposed pipes in basements, crawlspaces, or garages
• Unusual sounds like banging or whistling in your plumbing
• Water stains, damp spots, or unexpected puddles
Pro tips to prevent frozen pipes:
• Let faucets drip slightly, especially on exterior walls
• Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate
• Keep your thermostat set consistently, even overnight
• Insulate exposed pipes when possible

If you suspect frozen or burst pipes, act fast. The sooner the issue is addressed, the less damage it can cause. SERVPRO is here to help when you need us most.

Stay warm and stay prepared.

🚨 Have you seen our newest technician? 🚨

He said he was heading out into the storm to help homeowners with water damage… and now his phone is completely unresponsive 📵

But somehow, we keep getting great feedback from customers 🤔

We’re not asking questions. We’re just impressed by the dedication.

🌨️ With the storm ongoing, here are a few things to watch for:

💧 Sudden drop in water pressure
🏠 Water spots or discoloration on ceilings and walls
🪵 Damp floors, baseboards, or cabinets
👂 Sounds of dripping or running water when nothing is on
🧊 Frozen or slow-moving pipes

If you notice any of these signs, acting quickly can make a huge difference in preventing serious damage.

❄️ Most importantly, please stay safe out there today.

And if you need help, SERVPRO is ready—day or night.

Sometimes it’s not just about the job—it’s about showing up when someone needs help. 💚

Recently in Athol, MA, we were called to assist a customer who was in need of support. When our crew arrived, we noticed the driveway hadn’t been shoveled. While snow removal isn’t a service we offer, our team didn’t hesitate. They grabbed shovels and SHOWED UP in every sense of the word.

Acts like these remind us why we do what we do. Helping people is at the core of Servpro—whether it’s property damage or simply lending a hand. The homeowner was incredibly kind and grateful, and we were happy to help however we could.

Proud of this crew and proud to serve our community. 💪❄️

A call came in from Athol, MA about a water loss that started on the second floor and went unattended long enough to make its way all the way down to the basement. Unfortunately, that’s how quickly water damage can spread when it isn’t caught right away.

This is where teamwork matters most. What we do only works because of a great team, strong communication, and the support of the communities we serve. Every job brings its own challenges, and every job is an opportunity to learn and get better at what we do.

Featured here are Landon and Anthony—two of the people on site helping make it happen. 👋 Say hi if you see them around!

🚨 Got Mold? We Can Help. 🚨

This week, our SERVPRO team responded to a home right here in Greenfield, MA where mold developed as a result of water damage that was not properly mitigated. Unfortunately, this is something we see far too often.

When water damage isn’t addressed quickly and thoroughly, moisture can remain hidden behind walls, under flooring, or in insulation—creating the perfect environment for mold growth. What may have started as a small leak or minor water issue can turn into a much larger problem over time.

At SERVPRO, we specialize in not just cleaning up the visible damage, but identifying and addressing the source, properly drying affected areas, and safely remediating mold to help protect your home and your health.

If you’ve experienced water damage—recent or in the past—and are noticing musty odors, staining, or concerns about mold, don’t wait.

💧 Water Damage Wednesday 💧

This week’s response started with a phone call from a neighbor—someone who had seen our work firsthand after we completed a water damage job next door. When their neighbor experienced a busted pipe, they asked, “Who did you use?”

Our customer reached out to us and asked if it was OK for their neighbor to call. Our answer was simple: Absolutely—we’d love to help.

Situations like this remind us how important it is to know that it’s OK to ask for help. Water damage can be overwhelming, especially when it’s your first time dealing with it. This homeowner had never filed an insurance claim before and was unsure of the process from start to finish.

Our role went beyond drying and mitigation—we walked them through each step, answered questions, and made sure they understood what was happening along the way. By the end of the project, they were confident, informed, and happy with the service provided.

We’re grateful for referrals built on trust and even more grateful for the opportunity to help when our community needs an extra hand.

📍 Proudly serving our neighbors—one call at a time.

Mold remediation completed for a customer in Greenfield, MA—and moments like this are just as important as the finished job.

📸 Pictured here is our Project Manager taking time on site to teach our restoration technicians how to properly identify mold, what conditions allow it to grow, and why correct remediation matters. In the restoration industry, no one starts out knowing everything. This work requires continuous learning, hands-on training, and staying informed as standards and best practices evolve.

We take pride in fostering an environment where teaching and learning are encouraged, questions are welcomed, and growth is part of the job. That same mindset carries over to our customers—we believe an informed homeowner can make better decisions about protecting their property.

Some common conditions that can lead to mold include:

• Ongoing or hidden water leaks
• Poor ventilation or high humidity
• Flooding or water damage that wasn’t dried properly
• Condensation around windows, pipes, or HVAC systems
If something doesn’t seem right in your home, it’s always worth having it checked. Education, early action, and proper remediation make all the difference.

It’s OK to ask for help.

Sewage contains harmful bacteria, viruses, and contaminants that can pose serious health risks if not handled correctly. Proper mitigation isn’t just about cleanup; it requires trained technicians, specialized equipment, and full personal protective equipment (PPE) to keep everyone safe.

Attempting to clean sewage on your own can expose you to serious health hazards and often makes the damage worse. That’s why calling professionals matters.

If you ever find yourself dealing with something like this, know that you’re not alone—and it’s absolutely OK to ask for help. We’re here to restore your property safely and properly. 💚
