Natives:
🌱 Provide food and shelter for animals.
Humans are the most destructive invasive species on this planet. We need to learn how to live in a manner that doesn’t destroy the habitat of our native fauna.
Native plantings invite birds and butterflies back home.
Let’s enhance our lawns by creating pollinator beds and slowly shrinking non native turf grass
Native plants sequester (remove)carbon from our air, carbon pollutants that come from lawn mowers/trimmers and leaf blowers. Excessive carbon contributes to global warming
Native plants promote biodiversity, many species living together creates a richer environment for us all.
We can all be better stewards of our land and help preserve our natural heritage.
Native plants don’t require water, fertilizer or mowing.
They assist in water filtration in soil, reduce runoff and flooding. They help maintain a healthy watershed
Natives can fill those ‘trouble’ areas of your yard. Too wet? Too shady? Too clay-ey? There are natives to thrive in every niche with little to no maintenance.
You can start small, or go big. But we all need to do better and think mindfully about the plants we are using in our spaces. Stop buying plants from the big box stores and support your local nurseries and small businesses like Riverview Native Nursery and Poppin Up Natives
