I wanted to tell a story.
This is a story about a boy and his dog.
The other day, I was with my other half waiting to show a client a property. While waiting, we decided to take Kush and Darla out to p*e. All is normal so far. We get about 50 ft from the vehicle and my other half says, “There’s a dog around our truck.” I’m walking Kush and her, Darla.
I turn and see a dog by the truck sniffing around. His owner, or whomever she was, was walking after the dog. I could tell from the body language while he was sniffing around that this wasn’t going to be good. He smelled our dogs and he meant to find them. I handed Kush’s leash to my other half and told her to walk and get out of sight.
The dog closed the distance in a heartbeat, barreling toward us. I ran to challenge the dog face to face in order to create some distance between it and my dogs. The dog immediately braked and started aggressively challenging me back. It was clear to see that I wasn’t his main objective. He saw my dogs and he meant to get them.
The dog and I go back and forth, me trying not to get bit, him trying to challenge me and get around. The dog was extremely fast!! The dog challenging me, trying to bite me backed me all the way up to my dogs and my other half. Now I’m in kill or be killed mode! The dog is trying to bite me or my dogs or my other half. I’m kicking, yelling, anything I can do to get this dog away. I kicked and connected, but barely. He’s still attacking, inches away, kicking knocking him back a foot or so. I kicked as hard as I could. The scene was so hectic and chaotic. I wanted to protect my dogs and my other half so bad! I missed the dog with the kick!
When I did, I knocked my other half into the fence and she got disoriented. The dog came, Darla snapped and fended him off, giving my other half enough time to gain her composure again. The dog heads for the other side where Kush is. I can’t get there in time. I was trying to protect my Darla girl! This is when I hear my other half say, “Bubby slipped his collar!”
All I could think is this is going to be so bad. I’ve failed my dogs and my other half. Now the dog is going to attack us and I can only do something after the fact. Before I know it, my beautiful Kush boy grabbed the dog by the face and slammed it to the ground. This gave me an opportunity to jump on the dog and hold him down as well. I then felt as if I had everybody safe. I wanted them back to the truck, out of harms way asap! I told Kush to drop it….and my magnificent boy let go. When he did, the dog squirmed a little and grabbed Kush by the cheek.
I immediately let the dog up and put it in a sleeper hold. He let go of Kush and my boy walked with Darla and my other half to a nearby neighbor, who helped put Kush’s collar back on.
Half the neighborhood is out there now. I still have the dog in the sleeper hold, not applying the sleep pressure. Just preventing the dog from biting me or anything else. I was exhausted at this point. All I wanted was for the lady who had the dog to put his leash back on him. It took the lady a while, but she got it. I then told her that I was going to stand up while holding the dog, then throw the dog away from me. I told her to keep the dog from coming after me again and make sure she had the leash.
If this would have been an elderly couple, or someone with a small dog, it would have been very bad! I was not surprised when Kush stood up for his family. He is a great dog that words just can’t describe. He has been with me through it all! I love that dog. To me, he’s more than my dog.
He’s my best friend. My buddy. I talk with him. I hold him. I treat him like a baby. I feed him all kinds of food things. He sleeps next to me every night! To say I love this dog is an understatement! He’s done miraculous things in the past, but this dog saved everyone from getting bit! He saved the day and ended it abruptly! He then let go and walked away like nothing even happened. The neighbor loved them!
Anyone with an American Bully can relate most likely. These dogs are AMAZING! They have so much love to give and know when to be protective. I love my dog! I just wanted to tell that story.
Came away with scrapes, bruises and a broken toe, but no bites!!
