Catching water is only part of the equation.

The real question is: How fast can you get it out?

In this video, Production Manager Ben explains the engineering behind the next phase of this custom patio drainage project.

Every drainage system has three critical components:

✔ The Catch
✔ The Delivery
✔ The Exit

To make this system work efficiently, we’re installing a 55-gallon sump basin that will collect water from both the channel drain and the French drain system.

Inside the basin, an automatic float-activated sump pump will monitor water levels and activate when needed, pushing water through a dedicated PVC discharge line toward a box drain near the lake.

One of the most important details? Keeping the sump pump as close to the pool deck as possible. The shorter the distance between the water source and the pump, the faster the system can react during heavy rain events.

Even after a Florida downpour temporarily slowed the project, our crew got right back to work clearing trenches and preparing the discharge route along the fence line.

This is what professional drainage planning looks like.

Even during Florida’s rainy season, we’re building systems designed to move water out fast and protect your property. 🌧️

What happens when a channel drain needs slope to work—but adding too much slope creates a tripping hazard?

That’s the challenge we’re solving on this custom patio drainage project.

In this video, Production Manager Ben walks through our installation process, starting with a perfectly straight chalk line before our crew scores the concrete with an angle grinder and follows up with a concrete saw. To help keep the work area cleaner, we use water during cutting to reduce dust while creating a precise trench for the new drainage system.

Once the concrete and rebar are removed, the real innovation begins.

Most channel drains rely on pitch to move water. The problem is that excessive pitch can create an uneven surface and become a safety concern.

Our solution? A custom two-layer drainage system.

We’re installing a French drain directly underneath the channel drain. By drilling holes into the bottom of the channel drain, water falls through into the heavily pitched French drain below, which then carries the water safely away to a sump pump.

The result:
✔ A level patio surface
✔ No tripping hazard
✔ Better drainage performance
✔ Water moved efficiently away from the home

This is the kind of problem-solving that separates drainage engineering from simple drainage installation.

Even during Florida’s rainy season, we’re building systems designed to protect homes and keep water moving. 🌧️

Most homeowners only see the finished drainage system—but there’s a lot that happens before the first trench is dug.

In this video, Production Manager Ben walks through a job site and explains how planning, staging, and protecting the homeowner’s property are all critical parts of a successful drainage installation.

The project starts right in the driveway, where tools, pipe, concrete, and materials are staged for the day’s work. A clear driveway makes the process safer, faster, and more efficient for everyone involved.

As Ben moves through the property, he explains how our team is strategically routing a downspout line along the fence because the homeowner plans to install a concrete patio in the future. By planning ahead now, we help protect the drainage system from future construction and costly repairs.

Inside the pool enclosure, the pool deck naturally slopes toward the home, sending water exactly where it shouldn’t go. To solve the problem, we’re installing a channel drain system designed to intercept and redirect water before it reaches the house.

Our crew will use a chalk line, concrete saw, and jackhammer to create a precise cut for the new drain. We also take property protection seriously. Concrete cutting creates dust and debris, so tarps and proper preparation help keep the work area clean and protect the homeowner’s investment.

Many homeowners don’t realize that undersized channel drains often struggle during heavy Florida storms. That’s why we design systems built to handle real Florida rainfall.

Even during Florida’s rainy season, we’re helping homeowners stay ahead of water problems before they become expensive repairs. 🌧️

Standing water on a pool deck isn’t just annoying—it can become a safety hazard and lead to long-term drainage problems.

Before heading to today’s job, our Production Manager Ben gives a walkthrough of the materials and tools we’re bringing for a 35-foot channel drain installation on a pool deck.

What makes this project different?

Most contractors rely on pitching (sloping) the channel drain to move water. We take it a step further. We drill holes through the bottom of the channel drain and install a real French drain directly underneath it. This allows the channel drain to sit perfectly flat and flush with the pool deck while still draining efficiently. No low spots. No standing water. No shortcuts.

For this project, we’re loaded up with:
✔ 35 feet of channel drain
✔ PVC pipe, black pipe, and French drain pipe
✔ Eight 60-pound bags of concrete
✔ New drill bits

And the tools needed to get the job done right:
✔ Concrete saw
✔ Jackhammer
✔ Angle grinder
✔ Chalk and string line for precision cuts

Even during Florida’s rainy season, we’re out building drainage systems designed to keep water moving and protect your property.

Another successful drainage and foundation protection project completed in Winter Park, Florida. 💧

Our team installed downspout connection, discharge line, exterior pump system, PVC discharge from pump, tunnel under concrete, discharge grate, and foundation water mitigation to help move water away from the home.

Water near a foundation can lead to serious issues over time. That’s why this system was designed to capture, redirect, and discharge water before it has the opportunity to affect the home’s structure.

From tunneling under concrete to installing a complete pump discharge system, every part of this project works together to keep water moving away from the foundation.

Florida’s rainy season doesn’t wait, and neither do we. This home is now better protected from future storms and water intrusion. 🌧️

We’ve all heard it before:

“I know a guy who can do it cheaper.” 🤦‍♂️

Then you see the drainage system…

Two downspouts connected with an above-ground pipe, running across the yard like a backyard science experiment. 😂

To be fair, whoever built it had a mission:
✔ Keep costs low
✔ Make it easy to inspect
✔ Easy to clean
✔ Keep roots out
✔ Move water away from the foundation

And somehow… it actually worked.

But here’s the thing: a French drain belongs underground, not laying on top of the mulch getting a tan or taking a scenic route around the AC unit. 🌞

Check out the video to see this creative drainage setup for yourself!

If your drainage system looks more like a DIY experiment than a professional installation, give us a call. We’ll actually bury it. 🛠️🌧️
