We planted the seeds of our hybrid Philodendron 'Verrubescens' on june 21st, 2022. This plant is a cross between 'Red Emerald' and Philodendron Verrucosum. Through pollinating this inflorescence with pollen from Philodenron Verrucosum, we hope to create a new hybrid that has the fuzzy green petioles and enhanced coloration. Our ultimate goal is to create a plant that looks the same as Philodendron Verrucosum, without the higher humidity requirements.

Philodendron 'Red Emerald' x Verrucosum.

This form was named 'Verrubescens' after its unique blending of the color from Philodendron Verrucosum, with the toughness and leaf texture from the seed parent; a cultivar of Philodendron Erubescens called 'Red Emerald'.

The color on the backs of the leaves can last for up to five to six nodes of leaf growth when recieving enough fertilizer, humidity & light. The humidity requirement is in between the two parents.

They love climbing on moss poles, but we mostly let them crawl out of the pots like a 'red emerald' because it is much easier to propagate them that way. The main thing is to keep misting and fertilizing their Aerial Roots whenever you have time 😅

The leaves will get larger when this plant is provided with a climbing support like cork, drift wood, moss poles, and even coconut poles if you mist them a few times a week!

We have a dozen or so rooted cuttings available in 6" hanging baskets at our greenhouse for $25, but they are going to need to be potted up into a larger and more expensive size soon. We're mostly making nice full 12" hanging baskets now, as its easier to keep up with their needs in a wider pot planted with hp pro mix potting soil.

Having multiple cuttings in each pot creates a symbiotic relationship between them, where each cutting actually helps provide climbing support to the others while they all reach for the light.
