Harvest tomatoes early to avoid overwatering from too much continous rain.

We have a string of days this week with rain. This is tomato season. It is better to harvest tomatoes that are just starting to turn BEFORE a lot of continous rain. Let them finish ripening indoors to avoid them splitting due to overwatering.

They ripen faster on the counter and more slowly in the refridgerator.

Tomato hornworms are out now. I have found them in the greenhouse and the garden. Time of the season for these buggers. They can do massive damage in a very short time.

Best way to fight them is visual inspection daily and physically removing them. I feed them to my chickens, but you can just squash them.

They are green and blend in well. Look for signs of stripped leaves. Around this spot you will see little poo drops on leaves. You will find them near.
If you have a blacklight, they glow neon green at night (check your halloween stuff, you might have one).

Quick tip.

Plan to pot up some house plants or start some cuttings?

When your potting soil is very dry it can be challenginge to work with and more importantly difficult to get it evenly moist.

Pre moistened soil is easier to use and a lot better for the plant.

Put what you plan to use in a bin, add some water, stir a bit, then put on the lid. Usually in an hour or 2 the soil will be pre moistened, but not wet. Its always better to put less water than you think you may need.

Growing Cucumbers? Make some refrigerator pickles.

They are so easy to make! Any clean jar will do, it doesn't have to be a canning jar. Just save and clean a pasta sauce jar.

Slice how you want. I like a combo of spears and sandwhich chips. All you need is a mrs wages package and some vineger. The refrigerator package does 2 quart jars.

If you are feeling inspired, try your own spices to make a custom rine.

For best flavor wait at least 2 weeks and keep refrigerated. They are the crunchiest and tasty pickle you can make.
