Quartz Countertops by Gazelle Residential

The number one go-to countertop right now is hands down Quartz. Choices in Quartz remain primarily in white or white with color in the design designs. Quartz requires no sealing but is sensitive to heat. Anything above 300 degrees can melt and damage Quartz counters. The look can be traditional or modern and is always elegant. Quartz has an overall greater expense than granite due to the fact that the slabs are smaller and the price per square foot is often higher. Quartz is manmade. It is made from ground quartz minerals and resins. Granite is taken from the ground as is and is sized and polished for sale. They are 2 very different looks and products. Here are some photos of recent countertop installs.

7 Steps for Installing Laminate Flooring

1. The current flooring needs to be removed and be disposed of. The cost varies for the demo from carpet, to laminate to glue down flooring. If the flooring is already removed, than no issue.

2. Once the demo has taken place then floor must be thoroughly cleaned and checked with a moisture meter to insure that the foundation is solid and to maintain warranties for labor and materials.

3. The next phase is pouring float to insure the floors are flat so that the planks will lay properly and you will not have hills and valleys.

4. Next a good quality underlayment needs to be installed to help with moisture issues and the sound of the planks. We offer an excellent underlayment at reduced prices.

5. Next is the installation of the planks, leaving space against the walls for the movement in the house and in the planks them selves. At least a 10% overage is required for cutting plus at least one box for you to have should the laminate get damaged.

6. Next transitions need to be installed. Sometimes matching ones are available from the supplier, sometimes we use wood and stain to match. T-mold and reducers are common transitions from one flooring type to the next.

7. Since there are gaps left around all walls, quarter round trim is customarily installed to cover the gap while still leaving room for movement.

New homes under construction and flooring options:

My client built a new home in Howe, TX. She had the opportunity from her builder to do the floors herself rather than have the builder supply it. The builder put carpet in the bedrooms and stained the concrete in the family room to pass inspections. The new homeowner contacted me and wanted a wood look tile. She found, through my supplier, the perfect rustic look that would fit her home. She also chose decorative tile for the bathroom. I have run across several new home buyers that choose do their own flooring to reduce the expense and markup of the builder. Sometimes the choices are limited with a builder and you can expand the offering by hiring a contractor to complete the job for you. The timing can be coordinated so that when you have officially purchased the home we can install immediately so as not to hold up your move-in.

The Joys of Porcelain Tile for Patios

Homeowners in Fairview, Texas, contacted Gazelle Residential to tile their patio. They were uncomfortable with cracks and unsightly repairs on the cement slab.

The outdoor installation process is identical to installing in the home. Prep foundation, install tile with mortar then grout. Before laying the tile, a rubberized sealant was applied to cracks to minimize future breakage and provide flexibility. Then, float was applied to level the surface.

For this application, Porcelain is king. Here is why:

• The strength of tile withstands temperature changes from day to night and season to season.

• The structure of tile resists humidity.

• Whatever style or size you want, you can find it in porcelain tile.

• Prices ranges from $1.50 to $35 per square foot, offering choices for every budget.

• Porcelain tiles need no sealant to protect the surface.

• It’s available with surfaces that resist slipping.

Manufacturers test and rate tiles for this. The test is referred to the Coefficient of Friction (COF) and a value of 6.0 or higher is recommended for outdoor use. You can find COF values on the fact sheet for the tile on the manufacturer’s website.

The new porcelain tiles look great on the patio in Fairview. This durable outdoor flooring will provide an attractive setting for many seasons of cookouts and get-togethers.
