If anyone talks to Kelsey this week, tell her to go enjoy her vacation! She does still have the work phone as I would be awful at that job, but if it’s not dire maybe wait a week until reaching out. Texting is always better, and her and I will both be checking the email as well. If it is dire, put that as your subject in the email to help catch my attention. Kinda feels like the boss is away and I’m left in charge 😅

As close to hand feeding as I’ll get…

One turkey has a noticeable limp so naturally I try to pamper it a bit more than the others. Today was the first time I felt comfortable with the other two being so close, but I think we’re all in agreement that we’re friends and not foes.

I kept noticing orioles landing in the Rose of Sharon and clearly eating something, so I finally went over to take a closer look.

Once I looked closer, it was easy to spot: scale.

Scale insects feed on plants and can cause sticky honeydew, sooty mold, and stress when populations build up. But in this case, the orioles were already on the job.

They weren’t just visiting the shrub — they were actively picking off pests and playing a pest control role in the landscape.

Always cool to catch nature doing the work right in front of us. Sometimes the best thing you can do is slow down, look closer, and notice who’s already helping.
