The smallest details matter.
Tiny wooden dust (frass) isn’t just a sign of bugs—it often points to critical structural concerns. This dust led me to discover large areas of dead bark fully intact, and very easily removed, exposing the dead sapwood on this large 70 ft cottonwood next to a garage with high potential of hitting the structure. Due to high risk of failure, age, and size of the tree, it was decided to be taken out.

Climbed and took the top 40ft and then the remaining 30ft trunk. Inspection showed rotten heartwood through the sapwood down to the roots, confirming the tree was compromised.

Doing removals on a lake shore today, and was able to go up and down the hills side just fine until it warmed up enough to thaw some.

So had to shift gears and haul and stack all the trees/brush across the lake at the access. 16’ dump trailer 3’ side worth of trees/brush, and not one stick left on the ice. Even scraped as much of the dirt off the ice as possible and haul off the snow.

Wet snow works great to keep the sticks/branches from blowing out going to dump.
