Designing for hospitality is like solving a living, breathing puzzle, and at The Lunar Lounge at Mellow Moon Lodge, we really embraced it.

We see our role as space-planning problem solvers, working in deep collaboration with the owner to make every square inch count. Using existing equipment dimensions as our guideposts, we optimized the tiny back-of-house kitchen for maximum efficiency, navigated health department compliance, and designed custom, special-use cabinetry to fully support the workflow.

But the real fun? We choreographed the space.

We quite literally blocked out the “dance steps,” moving through the kitchen as if preparing menu items, mapping the motions required for daily operations, and imagining every task necessary to make service seamless. Each cabinet, counter, and pathway was shaped around those movements to ensure operational success in a compact footprint.

Today, has become a mainstay for , a place where guests start their mornings, locals gather before work, and the community comes together. When the season allows and the garage doors open to the patio, the space transforms into a vibrant place for small events and activities.

ShelterBelt’s first Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) project, now taking shape.
The roof structure is entirely CLT allowing for thin profiles and long, precise cantilevers. Each deep overhang defines and protects an outdoor room, extending the living space into the landscape.
Site meetings are the highlight of my week!

Detail view: a three-part steel column supporting the CLT roof corner, expressing structure clearly and honestly.
