I had a bone graft done and I’m still having lingering pain. I noticed this area near the extraction site and I’m not sure if what I’m seeing is normal healing, graft material working its way out, or something I should be concerned about. I feel like I’m stuck in a cycle. A few months ago I had severe pain in the back of my mouth, took antibiotics, and it settled down. Now the pain has returned and it’s even worse. The gum around my last tooth is swollen, tender, and partially covering the tooth. I’m taking 800mg ibuprofen and antibiotics again, but I’m still hurting and now my neck is starting to ache too. Anyone dealt with something similar?

I’m trying not to overthink this, but while checking my teeth I noticed what looks like an extra tooth coming through behind my lower teeth. I don’t remember seeing it before, and now I can’t stop looking at it every time I’m in front of a mirror.

It seems to be erupting from the gum at an odd angle, almost like it doesn’t have enough room. It’s not causing severe pain, but it definitely feels strange, and I’m worried about whether it could push the nearby teeth out of position or create bigger problems later. The frustrating part is that I have no idea if this is actually an extra tooth, a delayed adult tooth, or something else entirely.

I’m due for a dental appointment soon, but of course now I’m imagining everything from a simple observation to orthodontic work or an extraction. Google has been absolutely no help, as usual.

Has anyone else been told they had an extra tooth or had a tooth erupt in a weird place as an adult? What ended up happening?

Day 4 after my tooth extraction and I’m starting to panic a little. 😅 The site has this dark area and some white/yellow tissue around it, and now I’ve convinced myself I’m getting dry socket. Pain is there, but I honestly don’t know what’s considered normal healing versus something going wrong.

Does this look like a normal day-4 extraction site, or should I be calling my dentist?

I’m trying not to overthink it, but I’m about a week or so out from having my wisdom tooth removed and this healing site has me checking it every few hours. I know extraction sites can look pretty strange while they heal, but every time I look back there I convince myself something is wrong.

There’s still a whitish/yellowish tissue over the area, and the gum around it looks a little swollen. I’m not dealing with severe pain, but it definitely doesn’t look like I expected it to by this point. I keep wondering if what I’m seeing is normal healing tissue, food stuck in the socket, or something I should be calling the surgeon about.

The extraction itself cost me around $1,400, so I’m really hoping this is just part of the normal healing process and not the start of another appointment. I know everyone heals differently, but it’s hard not to compare my recovery to every photo I find online.

For those who have had wisdom teeth removed, did your extraction site still look like this during healing, and how long did it take before it started looking more normal?

I genuinely don’t know if I’m overreacting, but this tooth looks pretty rough to me. It appears fractured and there’s obvious discoloration in the center. I’m trying to figure out what my next step should be and how urgent this really is. I can still chew on the other side, but I’m worried every day I wait could make things worse. I am honestly losing my mind over this. I already spent nearly $1,800 on dental work over the last year, and now I noticed this weird yellowish bump on the inside of my cheek right behind my back molars. It wasn't there before, and now every time my tongue touches it I can't stop thinking about it. I called my dentist and was basically told, "just keep an eye on it for now." Keep an eye on it? It looks like a tiny piece of popcorn stuck under my skin. I cannot believe I'm back to playing the guessing game with my mouth again. Am I overreacting or would you be trying to get this looked at ASAP?

My jaw actually dropped when I noticed this small raised bump on the gum tissue near my back molar. I’ve probably spent close to $500 on cleanings and exams recently, so I wasn’t expecting to find something else to worry about. It doesn’t seem huge, but it’s definitely visible and feels different than the surrounding tissue. The dentist’s office said it could be irritation and to keep an eye on it, but I’m genuinely trying to figure out if anyone else has had something that looked like this. Did it end up being harmless, a gum infection, or something else entirely? Is this normal?
