Blessed Autumnal Equinox, friends. The roses are dead, the violets too, I hate all cliches, and I hope you do too. The past month has dragged, lugubrious and yellowed like Visconti’s Death In Venice. I’ve cried more than I had since the first few months after I made the bravest and most challenging decision of my life. And yet: life goes on. True friends are true friends. Children are pure gold for the soul and trying too much of the time, it seems, but: life goes on and so do we. Self-care is hard but it’s an essential skill for maintaining and strengthening the soul’s dignity. Treat yourself to something special and remember what’s good. If you’re reading this, you have exceptional privilege in this world. That doesn’t mean your suffering isn’t meaningful, but it does mean that you have the means to change your perceptions. We are all suffering the collective indignities that have made our societies and also our positions. We all feel the change. Welcome, fall. Let us be humble before you.
