Not your typical day on the job…

We had the chance to install owl homes in this beautiful elm tree for a local property. Projects like this are a great reminder that tree care isn’t just about trimming and removal—it’s also about protecting wildlife and giving trees a long, healthy life.

Big shoutout to our crew for always taking pride in the work. 🦉🌳

🚨 Pine Tree Alert: Zimmerman Moth & Mountain Pine Beetle Activity 🚨

If you have Austrian, Ponderosa, Scots, or Lodgepole Pines, now is the time to inspect your trees.

Two major threats are active in Colorado:

🪲 Mountain Pine Beetle (MPB)
• Attacks healthy mature pines
• Causes rapid decline and tree death
• Signs include pitch tubes, fading needles, and woodpecker damage

🦋 Zimmerman Pine Moth
• Targets pine trunks and branch unions
• Weakens tree structure over time
• Look for large resin masses and sawdust around the bark

⚠️ Early detection matters. While MPB infestations often require removal, Zimmerman Moth damage can be prevented and treated when caught early.

At Environmental Tree Care, our Certified Arborists provide:
✅ Professional inspections
✅ Pest identification
✅ Preventative treatment programs
✅ Long-term pine protection plans

Another backyard transformed! ✨

We recently completed this custom landscape project featuring a natural stone stream and pond, artificial turf, and new tree installations to frame the space and add long-term beauty.

From the flowing water and hand-placed boulders to the lush turf and thoughtfully planted trees in the background, every element was designed to feel natural while staying low-maintenance and functional.

This backyard is now built for relaxing, entertaining, and enjoying the outdoors year-round. 🌿💧

See this white stuff on a pine tree? That’s not sap — it’s a warning sign. ⚠️🌲

Those are called pitch tubes, and they usually mean bark beetles are attacking the tree.

The tree is literally trying to push the beetle back out with resin.
If the beetles win, the tree loses.

Early treatment can make all the difference.

If you spot this on your pines, give Environmental Tree Care a call — we’ll help you catch it before the damage becomes permanent.

Roots that wrap around the trunk are called Stem Girdling Roots (SGR). As the tree and the root get thicker, the root starts to strangle the tree, which stops the flow of water and nutrients up to the leaves. Left untreated, it will kill the tree. If you have roots like this on your tree, call us today to have one of our Certified Arborists help save your tree!

🌲 Trees Still Need Water in Winter! 🌲

Even though trees are dormant, they’re still using water. Evergreens and dormant branches continue to lose moisture through a process called transpiration—especially on sunny, windy winter days.

And here in Denver, we’ve only had two small snowfalls so far this season, which means soils are drier than most people realize. Snow just isn’t enough to keep trees hydrated.

Without occasional watering, trees can suffer winter burn, stress, and dieback that doesn’t show up until spring.

Easy tips for winter watering:

✔ Water on days above 40°F
✔ Aim for the soil around the tree, not the trunk
✔ Water in the middle of the day
✔ Pay extra attention to young trees and evergreens

A little effort now can mean healthier, stronger trees when the growing season returns.

Need help staying on top of winter watering? Environmental Tree Care offers professional guidance and services to keep your landscape properly hydrated. Reach out to us today!

🔥 Fire Blight & Why Winter Pruning Matters 🔥
Fire blight is a destructive bacterial disease that affects apples, pears, crabapples, and other fruit trees. Infected branches often appear scorched, with blackened leaves that cling to shoots and curled, shepherd’s-crook tips.
One of the most effective ways to manage fire blight is proper winter pruning. Pruning during dormancy removes infected wood when the bacteria is inactive, greatly reducing the risk of spread. Winter conditions also allow for cleaner cuts, better visibility of structure, and safer sanitation practices.
In contrast, pruning during the growing season—especially in warm, wet weather—can actually spread fire blight from cut to cut.
If your fruit trees have a history of fire blight, winter is the ideal time for corrective pruning and long-term prevention. A certified arborist can identify infected wood and help protect your trees before spring arrives.
🌳 Proactive care now prevents problems later.

Fantastic experience with Environmental Tree Care. They communicated well and were super quick when we needed limb removal / cleanup after a storm. They were also very knowledgeable in their recommendations for trimming our tree and did everything for a great price. Highly recommend!
