We are thrilled about this one: has named Detroit as City the Year for 2026.

Detroit has been at the core of our office's work since our inception—serving as a source of inspiration and a site for creative exploration—and, with multiple projects completed or underway in , we have had the rare privilege of witnessing firsthand the transformative power of design in the city.

Many thanks to and for the opportunity to be a part of the rich ecosystem of new projects across Little Village in Detroit. These projects are deeply collaborative, culturally sensitive, and embody the spirit of our office: through grit and creativity we endeavor to enrich the lives of people and health of the land through contextual design. As notes, there is "a sense of optimism here that's hard to find anywhere else in the US."

"There’s a misconception that the grassroots, DIY approach left the city," says Anthony Curis, co-founder of , the gallery and cultural platform that’s spearheading the Stanton Yards project. "It’s very much alive but has shifted, almost exclusively, to the neighbourhoods."

We're honored to work alongside fresh thinkers and talented souls that have added to the Detroit landscape, not least: .us .structural

is OSD’s second project to receive a ‘Jury Winner’ award for this year’s Vision Awards, which recognize radical ideas shaping the future of the built environment. 🙌
Embodying OSD’s outside>in ethos, the Stanton Yards waterfront plan received the award in the Vision for Landscape category. The 13 acre project transforms a post-industrial waterfront into a new series of ‘Yards’ for public waterfront access that features social, ecological and cultural infrastructure. Designed in collaboration with our friends at who are re-purposing several existing structure, and with our clients and the project is due for construction in the coming months.

How can design make us question fundamental assumptions about society?

“A New World Image” is a traveling exhibition about the UN’s Human Rights treatise, exploring its origins and questioning whether Human Rights are a universal moral code, or something that may vanish with inequality and social upheaval.

Over 100 historic documents are sealed under impact-resistant glass, inviting visitors to discover up close the UN treatise, while evoking the fragility of the concept of Human Rights.

Beyond the archive, a landscape of towering columns invites visitors to navigate the ongoing debate: Are Human Rights a universal truth, or a contested ideal?

Designed to travel the globe, the exhibition is entirely modular—easy to assemble and disassemble. First exhibited in Copenhagen, the exhibition has traveled to New York, Ireland, Denmark, and Australia, challenging how we see the past and the future of Human Rights.

The project was designed in collaboration with university ISHR; curators Eva Prag and Katrine Bregengaard; graphic designers , Tim Gambell; the Danish Institute for Human Rights; the Danish Royal Library
