In 1962, Robert Davis erected one wood frame house and began producing greenhouse tomatoes. In 1964, after earning his masters degree in horticulture from the University of Georgia, he added five more houses and Davis Floral Company became a full-time business. ess full time. Over the next few years, tomatoes were phased out and the cut flower line was expanded and sold to local florists throughout the 1970's. In 1981, three houses were built specifically for geranium propagation. By 1983 cut flowers were no longer part of Davis's product line. For almost 30 years the Davis' propagated and produced finished annuals of many flowering plants - mostly annuals. As the finished business grew, the propagation business diminished until it was finally phased out in 2011. Today DFC still propagates poinsettia and tropical liners for the public, and they sell those same products prefinished all over the United States. The finished business continues to grow, supplying geraniums, begonias, hibiscus, poinsettias, even vegetable plants to independent garden centers in Georgia, and the Carolinas. After almost 50 years in business, Davis Floral Company is proud to be operating under its second generation. Michael Davis received a horticulture degree from UGA in 1997 and an MBA in 2003, after which he returned to help his parents’ run the business. Michael officially took over the reigns in July of 2010, with Ann and Robert close by still working on a part-time basis to ensure a seamless transition. Michael’s wife Lisa joined the team in 2010 and together they intend to follow the Davis tradition of working hard to grow the family business. Following in Robert and Ann Davis' footsteps, this younger generation's goal is to produce the highest quality product possible while providing excellent customer service. Davis Floral Company is doing its best to balance the old and the new. We are proud of our tradition of excellence, and have employees and customers who have been with us for decades. At the same time, we have new people, new ideas, and the energy of youth and the desire for innovation. Year round we serve a wholesale market within a 250-mile radius of our location. We ship our tropical and poinsettia cuttings, as well as our prefinished material all over the country. Our customers vary between Mom and Pop retail operations, to the high end retailers in Atlanta, Athens, and Anderson to name a few. We are still a family business though, and there are days when three generations of Davis’ are roaming around pitching in.
