Congratulations to the Melhorn Builders Team, who were recognized at the Harrisburg Builders Association’s 2021 Pyramid Awards last evening. Awards were received for the categories of Best Outdoor Living Space $75,001-$100,000, Best Outdoor Living Space $25,001-$50,000, and Best Residential Renovation $50,001-75,000. Wow!!! What beautiful weather we are having in central Pennsylvania right now. June, mid 70s and low humidity. What could be better? Maybe having a place to enjoy that kind of weather. Here are a couple pictures of some projects the Melhorn Builders team has been working on this spring to provide outdoor entertaining spaces. Melhorn Builders Inc is looking to add a full-time Carpenter to their team of detailed craftspeople. Melhorn Builders Inc is a quality-driven remodeling company based out of the Dillsburg area. All work is local and completed within a Monday - Friday work week. Work includes everything from kitchen and bathrooms, to additions and whole house renovations. All projects are completed to exceed customer's expectations and using best practices throughout the entire building process. We are also willing to teach the art of craftsmanship to eager and motivated individuals.

Carpenter Applicant must be able to:

- Work both independently and be a team player working with others to create a carefully crafted project from the footers to the roof and everything in between

- Complete all aspects of carpentry on an addition from foundation and layout to finish trim and cabinetry

- Complete remodeling work on various-aged structures

- Communicate well with lead carpenter and foreman

- Keep clean and organized jobsite and job trailer

Qualifications and Skills

- Must be enthusiastic, detail and customer oriented and have a drive to build to a higher standard

- Must have experience in both rough and fine finish carpentry

- Must be able to work independently as well as with a team

- Must have a desire to expand knowledge of new products and processes

- Equipment experience including towing, skidloader and backhoe a plus

- Basic electrical, plumbing, drywall knowledge a plus

- Must have valid and current drivers license and reliable transportation

- Employee is only responsible for personal hand tools. Company trailers well organized and stocked with up-to-date tools and materials to complete work efficiently

This eye-catching project won the Northeastern division of Contractor of the Year (CotY) for 2021 in the category of Whole House $250,000-500,000. After looking at various renovation projects individually, the owners decided that it was time to do significant work to take their home from being just another house to their dream home. Their wish list included additional garage space, exterior facelift, better outdoor living and additional master closet space. The final scope included a 2 car garage with workspace and inground car-lift, two-tiered deck with roof covering, a hardscaped patio with firepit, outdoor kitchen and hot tub, a complete upgrade of the aluminum siding with James Hardie and white PVC trim and altering trusses in the existing attic to extend the master closet. The garage included 12’ walls and scissor trusses allowing plenty of room for the car lift without looking bulky and overbearing on the exterior. The covered deck used PVC decking complimented with rich natural cedar ceiling and white PVC trim and posts. The natural cedar was carried through to a small privacy fence between other natural cover to give a backyard oasis that hardly seems like it is in a confined neighborhood. Despite a significant investment, the extensive renovations transformed their house into their dream home without changing neighborhoods or school districts.

Here's a look at the addition that was honored by winning the Contractor of the Year award for the Northeast region in the category of Residential Addition-$100,000. After owning several houses in developments, the homeowners were interested in a house with more land and no immediate neighbors. They were able to find a house that had 7 acres in Dillsburg, but had a different vision for the final look of the house. They worked with Melhorn Builders to develop a plan to put an addition on the rear to enlarge the dining room as well as provide a covered patio area. Additionally, the entire exterior of the house was given a facelift that included removing the second floor low pitched roof and installing a new trussed roof. The exterior was finished with beautiful blue siding and white trim boards. The end result is a home that barely resembles the original.

Take a look at Melhorn Builders Inc.'s project that has been nominated and won the 2021 Contractor of the Year award in the category of Universal Design Bathroom. With a pool in their back yard, the homeowners wanted to upgrade their walkout basement to provide an additional bathroom that would be accessible to a family friend confined to a wheelchair. Melhorn Builders developed a design that allowed for the current utility room to be turned into a new easily accessible bathroom with a modern design. The black fixtures and pattern flooring as well as hanging vanity lights set this bathroom apart without making it look “accessible”. The rest of the basement was refurbished with paint, carpet and new ceiling tile. Additionally, trim and built-in cabinets round out this renovation.

Melhorn Builders is honored to announce that our team had three projects from the past two years nominated for the prestigious 2021 Contractor of the Year (CotY) awards. Melhorn Builders won the Regional Northeast Remodeling awards in the categories of Universal Design Bathroom, Residential Addition $100,000, and Entire House Remodel $250,000-500,000. These projects now qualify for national level awards. We celebrate the hard work and dedication of our entire team as these awards continue to validate our efforts to build to a higher quality. Merry Christmas to all. We pray that this year especially will be filled with the hope that Jesus brought to our world and the delight of family. We thank all who have supported us through this crazy year. It has been filled with many ups and downs but we want to express our appreciation for your patience as we have navigated these uncharted times. Hold your loved ones a little tighter this year and be thankful for the moments we have been blessed with. Merry Christmas and looking forward with hope toward a blessed new year.
