Be aware: Poison Hemlock (Conium maculatum) is growing across Tennessee this season. This highly toxic plant is often found along roadsides, fields, creek banks, and disturbed areas.

What to look for:

Tall (4–9 ft), smooth, hollow stems with purple spots.
Fern-like leaves and small white flowers in umbrella-shaped clusters.
Often mistaken for Queen Anne’s Lace — but far more dangerous

IMPORTANT: If you find poison hemlock on your property:

DO NOT touch it with bare hands.
Always wear gloves, long sleeves, and a mask when handling.
Never mow or burn it — this can release toxic particles into the air.
Remove it early in the season before it flowers and seeds.
