Opening up the kitchen and family room in this Bronxville home required some serious structural work behind the scenes.

Existing walls were removed to create one continuous space. The original wood beam was replaced with a steel beam, allowing the structure above to remain supported while opening the room below.

On the exterior, a small French door and window were removed to create a larger opening for new French doors connecting the family room to the patio.

A lot of structural heavy lifting, but the result will be a bright, open space where the kitchen, family room, and garden connect.

This house had plenty of charm, but not enough space.

By responding closely to how the clients wanted to live and the images that inspired them, we reshaped the home into something more open, functional, and comfortable, while keeping its original character intact.

A reminder that when moving feels out of reach, reworking what you already have can make all the difference!

Transformations begin before the first sketch. They start with understanding how you live and what you imagine for your home. If you’re planning a renovation in 2025-2026, we’d love to explore possibilities with you.

Can you believe this beautiful family room was once a weird, open void under the house? When this home was built back in 1964, the space beneath it was left completely exposed to the elements, interesting but not very useful.

We enclosed it and turned it into a bright, comfortable family room where the kids can create art, spread out, and make all the happy messes that come with it. A forgotten under-the-house space is now one of the most lived in rooms in the house.

A Beautiful Connection: To replace an old covered walkway that connects the home to the garage, we’re designing a new glass breezeway that keeps the view open while enclosing the space for storage and everyday use. Inspired by Japanese design, it will frame the landscape, bring in light, and create a warm, welcoming threshold.
