If you're looking to try out backpacking this summer, Bull Run and Heiser lakes are a great choice. Located on Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway, which happens to be one of our favorite scenic drives in the High Sierra, these spots aren't too far from the town of Markleeville. You'll find old growth forests, lots of granite, water of course and even fishing.
