CDL Dump Truck Driver
Summary:
Freedom Asphalt is hiring an individual to drive our Tri-Axle dump truck and pull our bumper-pull equipment trailer.
Position pays between $25 - $35 an hour depending on experience and daily workload.
Position works Monday through Friday with a 6 a.m. start time.
Position is located in Dover, PA.

General Description:
A Dump Truck Driver is responsible for picking up and delivering equipment and materials according to a schedule. The dump truck driver’s responsibilities include using the cranks and levers inside the truck to unload materials, supervising and verifying the loading of materials onto the truck, and inspecting the truck for any mechanical issues before and after every trip. The driver should also be able to safely drive and operate the truck in all weather conditions. Ultimately, a top-performing dump truck driver should perform all duties in accordance with company safety rules and Department of Transportation (DOT) road safety regulations.
General Duties:
o Record Daily Project Information Report items such as personnel, production time, material, equipment and operational data on specified forms and reports to be turned in daily.
o Attaches and removes transfer trailers and tilt/transport trailers to truck as needed.
o Obey applicable laws and follow dispatch instructions.
o Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
o Must keep vehicle in a clean and orderly condition.
o When directed by the Paver Operator, the Dump Truck Driver assists as a Flagger to direct motorists away from the work zone.
o Other duties as assigned, needed, or requested by Paver Operator or any crew member.
Key Duties:
o Set Up
o Performs daily pre/post trip inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with DOT guidelines.
o Checks fluid levels, tires, lights, and other controls for safe operation.
o Load and unload equipment. Secure with binders and chains according to DOT Regulations.
o Ensure there is no debris on trailer that could fly off and damage passing vehicles.
o Ensure truck has full tank fuel at the start of each shift.
o For trucks equipped with Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF fluid), ensure fluid is at adequate levels.
o Ensure hands-free telephone headset or intercom system is present and functional.
o The Driver is expected to take telephone calls from the Paver Operator during travel. These telephone calls should be taken without delay as most times the telephone calls contain urgent information.
o Get approval from Paver Operator to dispatch to project location.
o General Transport
o Driver should dispatch to job site directly making an effort to avoid cumbersome and time-consuming detours.
o Driver should be sure to comply with all DOT scale house and not avoid open scale houses.
o During transport, Driver should monitor various gauges during operation of vehicle.
o Transport To / From Asphalt Plants and Stone Quarry
o Get approval from Paver Operator to dispatch to the asphalt plant / quarry.
o Often times the driver is directed to go on “stand by” at the plant / quarry and await instructions. It is imperative when on “stand by” the Driver monitors his telephone for instructions.
o Driver is responsible for verifying while still on asphalt plant / quarry property that he is loaded with proper asphalt material and the tear ticket matches what the load is.
o Driver should always use truck tarp to cover loads.
o Driver should ensure that the materials are loaded correctly onto the dump truck.
o Operation
o Driver is responsible to comply with instructions given by the Paver Operator or any member of the asphalt crew during the paving operation. If conflicting instructions are received, the Driver will follow the last given instruction.
o Once on site, the Driver should line up, staying centered in front of the paver and await instructions.
o When reversing into the paver, the Driver should stop just short of the paver avoiding bumping into it.
o At all times, the Driver should pay attention to the dump man’s hand signals.
o The Paver Operator should not need to get the attention of the Driver. While in the truck, the Driver should be paying attention to the job and be available when called upon.
o It is expected the Driver immediately comply with the dump man’s hand signals to avoid spilling product or jeopardizing the quality of the pave job.
o After dumping into the paver and pulling forward far enough to avoid impeding the paving crews job progress, Driver should get out of the truck to ensure the gate is shut and clean.
o When getting to the end of the driveway, if the Driver needs to venture into traffic, he should do so cautiously with his hazard lights on.
o The Driver needs to stay in close proximity of the job site until released to clean truck by the Paver Operator.
o Job Completion
o Once released by the Paver Operator, the Driver should start the process of cleaning the truck. This may require a trip to a dump site to remove any unused material. The Driver should go directly to the closest approved dump site to dump off.
o Driver should defer to Paver Operator what to do with excess material.
o Once the truck is clean, the Driver should work to assist in equipment clean up and loading.
o Priority should be given to equipment loading order.
o It is imperative the Driver ensure the paver is clean before moving it to be loaded. The clean up area should be kept as minimal as possible.
o Ensure Daily Project Information Report is complete.
o Assist paving team with ensuring proper job site clean-up. This includes collecting and removing all tools and trash from job site, cleaning any loose asphalt from customer yard, and cleaning and removing any debris in the street.
o Get Paver Operator approval to leave the job site.
o Maintenance
o Greasing the dump truck every 5,000 miles.
o Safety
o Always aware of safety issues, maintains a safe work environment and makes management aware of any issue.
o Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
o Promptly reporting any accidents, injuries or mechanical faults to management.
o Maintaining accurate driver logs.
Qualification Requirements:

Education and Experience:
o Requirements. This position a skilled labor position. Must possess a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License with a Valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate. A Clean driving record is imperative.
o Proven experience operating a standard dump truck.
o Working knowledge of construction site safety, truck maintenance, and road safety regulations.
o Effective communication skills.
o Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with Paver Operator and fellow employees.
o Must demonstrate excellent safety awareness, and a willingness to comply with company policies and safety standards.
o Effective communication with other operators, truck drivers, and the general public is critical.
o Must have reliable transportation and have the ability to travel. Periodic evenings, nights, weekends, and overtime hours are expected.
o Must wear proper attire at all times and reflect a clean and presentable image.
o Continuous mental and visual attention is necessary to safely and effectively complete work tasks.
o Project a positive and cooperative attitude by maintaining courteous and professional conduct with Supervisors, co-workers, customers, and the general public.
Physical Demands:
o Requirements. The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a Dump Truck Driver to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
o Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Employee must be able to stand or sit for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform Key Duties.
o Ability to lift, on a frequent basis, at least 50 pounds and carry at least 30 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.
o This job requires the ability to see, whether naturally or with vision correction tools (glasses, contacts).
o Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.
o Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
Work Environment:
o Requirements. The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that a Dump Truck Driver encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
o Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
o Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction project.
o Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
o Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and ready mixed concrete.
o Must be able to work flexible schedule which includes days and nights.
o Must be able to work flexible schedule which includes variable start and end times.
