Cabinetry can completely change the way a space feels.

A rich wood stain can bring warmth and depth, while a painted finish can make the same room feel brighter, moodier, softer, or more refined. Because cabinetry takes up so much visual space, it often becomes one of the biggest elements shaping the overall look and feel of a kitchen or bathroom.

A primary bathroom should feel beautiful, but it also needs to work for the way you move through your everyday routine.⁠

For this recently completed Ivyland primary bathroom, we leaned into a warm, traditional style with an elevated finish, pairing rich wood cabinetry with soft stone tones, warm metallic fixtures, and vintage-inspired lighting. The darker millwork brings depth and character to the otherwise light-filled space, while details like the ornate sconces and textured glass pendants give the room personality without making it feel overly formal.⁠

Storage was also a major part of the design. Rather than relying on a standard double vanity, we took advantage of the entire wall with custom cabinetry, incorporating generous drawers and cabinets below each sink, a full-height center cabinet, additional drawers at eye level, and recessed shelving on either side. ⁠

Beyond the vanity, the oversized shower keeps things bright and open with frameless glass and large-format marble-look tile, complemented by both a rainfall showerhead and a traditional wall-mounted showerhead.⁠

The result is a primary suite that feels classic, warm, and tailored to this family, with thoughtful storage built right into the design.⁠

A successful remodel starts long before demolition. It starts with knowing what you’re actually trying to accomplish.⁠

Before you begin your next project, Mike recommends getting clear on three things:⁠
⁠
First, define your scope. You don’t need every detail figured out, but you should have a strong understanding of what you want to change, which spaces are involved, and what you hope to accomplish. The clearer your vision, the better you can research what a project of that size and complexity may require.⁠
⁠
Next, determine who you need to hire. A straightforward cabinet replacement may call for a general contractor. New outlets or lighting could require an electrician. A larger transformation involving design, selections, construction, and installation may be better suited for a full-service design-build firm. Finding the right professional for your scope can save you time, frustration, and a lot of unnecessary back-and-forth.⁠

Laundry rooms have come a long way from being tucked into an unfinished corner of the basement. Today, homeowners are giving laundry the space, storage, and thoughtful design it deserves, with some even bringing it upstairs or directly into the primary closet to make the weekly routine that much easier.

But once you decide where the washer and dryer should go, there’s another debate: side-by-side or stacked?

Side-by-side layouts can offer easy access to both machines while creating valuable countertop space above for folding, sorting, and everyday organization. Stacked units, on the other hand, maximize vertical space and free up valuable square footage for cabinetry, storage, hanging space, or other functions.

Neither is automatically the better choice. It comes down to your available space, your routine, and how you want your laundry area to function within your home.

Happy Birthday to the one behind the camera, behind the content, and behind so much of the storytelling here at LBK-- Kyla!

As our Content Marketing Producer, Kyla is the driving force behind the photos, videos, podcasts, and content that help tell the story of LBK. She captures the beautiful finished spaces you see on our feed, but her work goes so much further than the final reveal. She’s there documenting the progress along the way, celebrating alongside our clients at the end of their projects, producing our full-length project videos, and bringing our podcasts to life so we can continue educating and connecting with clients past, present, and future.

There’s a lot of responsibility that comes with telling the story of a brand, especially one built around the people and experiences behind the finished spaces. Kyla takes that responsibility seriously while somehow making the finished product look effortless.

And if you know Kyla, you know her dedication doesn’t stop when the clock says it should. She’s often one of the last people out the door, making sure the job is done and done well before heading home. We’re incredibly grateful for that commitment, but just as grateful for the humor, creativity, expertise, and personality she brings to our team every day.

To the woman who is truly the glue and the heart of LBK Design Build, happy birthday to our Marketing Director, Jordyn White! 🤍

Today, we’re celebrating more than just another year around the sun. We’re celebrating the woman who brings heart, creativity, energy, and so much personality into everything she does. Jordyn, you have a way of making people feel seen, supported, and welcomed, and that is something that cannot be taught. It is simply who you are.

From the countless ideas, conversations, projects, events, and moving pieces you somehow manage to keep together, to the moments when you remind everyone around you to laugh, breathe, and enjoy the process, you have become such an important part of what makes LBK feel like LBK.

You pour so much of yourself into the people and the work around you, and today is a reminder that you deserve to have that same love, encouragement, and celebration poured right back into you.

If your kitchen doesn’t feel quite right, you may not need to rethink the entire space. Sometimes, a few strategic design changes can completely shift how it looks, feels, and functions.⁠
⁠
We asked our Lead Designer, Alyssa, where she’d start if a client told her their kitchen felt disjointed or disconnected from their personal style.⁠
⁠
1) Then, look up. Lighting has a major impact on both the personality and functionality of a kitchen. An oversized pendant can create a dramatic focal point, while a series of smaller pendants can bring additional light exactly where you need it.⁠

2) First up: hardware. Mixing k***s and pulls, experimenting with different lengths, or introducing a new finish can add dimension and make your cabinetry feel much more considered.⁠
⁠
3) And finally, your backsplash. Changing the tile itself can transform the room, but so can changing the way it’s installed. A herringbone, stacked, or other distinctive layout can give even a classic tile an entirely different presence.⁠
⁠
Good kitchen design isn’t just about following what’s trending. It’s about finding the details that make your space feel cohesive, functional, and true to you.⁠
