"A calendar of the heavens," The Old Farmer's Almanac speaks to all walks of life: forecasts for those who don't like the question of weather left up in the air; tide tables for those who live near the ocean; planting charts for those who garden; recipes for those who live in the kitchen; Moon phases for those who love to watch the sky; folklore, wit, and wisdom. Thomas, guide us still: "strive always to be useful, but with a pleasant degree of humor."

Grow your own first aid kit! Aloe vera has medicinal properties to help ease burns to the skin 🪴

To make use of the aloe vera plant’s soothing properties, remove a mature leaf from the plant and cut it lengthwise. Squeeze the gel out of the leaf and apply it to your burn, or lay the opened leaf, gel side down, on the affected area.

One hint though - do not ingest the gel, as it can cause nausea and other unpleasant symptoms. Learn how to grow this healing, helpful plant at Almanac.com/plant/aloe-vera

Happy World Environment Day! 🌎️ In 1972, the United Nations General Assembly established this observance to raise environmental awareness across the globe. The holiday has been held annually on June 5, a date that commemorates the start of the landmark 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, in Stockholm, Sweden.

Each year, World Environment Day focuses on a particularly pressing environmental issue, such as wildlife conservation, climate change, or our vital connection to nature 🦬🌳

Here's a weather story we didn't expect to see on the big screen: a brand-new movie about the forecasts behind D-Day. Here at the Almanac, we do love a good period drama about weather prognostication!

The film, “Pressure," starring Andrew Scott and Brendan Fraser, was released in theaters on May 29. It follows meteorologist James Stag during World War II, and explores how weather forecasting played a major role in one of history’s most pivotal moments. President Eisenhower later remarked that the Allies succeeded in part because they had "better meteorologists than the Germans."
