One of my favorite new home projects of the past few years, this custom riverside home replaced an old stone cottage on a spectacular site. As much as possible, spaces were arranged to take advantage of the views. We retained a cottage feel on the front of the house, and let the surprises happen as you move into the house.

An historic home in Dublin Ohio’s Historic District that had been used as a rental for many years was turned into a wonderfully cozy and quaint cottage for the owners. The original main house remained, but was completely remodeled inside. A new addition included a living room, kitchen, master bedroom suite, laundry/mudroom, and garage. The interior of this compact cottage was opened up to connect a new, larger kitchen with the existing living room. A master suite was added at the back, replacing a dilapidated deck and creating a private outdoor living space for the family. A new color scheme gave the house a fresh new look:

The Low Budget Home

Architects can design homes with low construction budgets, if the client is willing to step outside of the typical idea of a “house”, and is willing to let the Architect truly innovate.

I must not be keeping up on my reading…I was recently asked about “Biophilic Design” and had to admit I hadn’t come across that term before.

I guessed it had something to do with landscape design and it does, sort of. But there’s a lot more to it than that.
