This summer we started hosting acoustic jams for residents as a way to connect through music. We've had people playing guitar, piano, harmonica, cello, and lots of singing.

It's beautiful to see people light up when they get a chance to play music with others, sing along, or listen and enjoy. It's also been a way to break stereotypes and connect with people who otherwise might seem different from you. A good reminder that a "homeless person" is actually just a person, a neighbor, a friend.

🥗Help fight hunger and homelessness this winter!

The Dubuque City Council voted to make addressing homelessness a high priority in 2027. Homelessness has risen in our city in recent years, leading to four times as many people sleeping outside this summer than in 2022.

We are grateful to The City Council for prioritizing fighting homelessness. As a community, we can end homelessness, but only if we do it together. And we need your help!

We have seen a significant increase in people utilizing food and shelter services at the Dubuque Rescue Mission. As the freezing temperatures of winter arrive, many of those sleeping outside will seek beds indoors.

🤚Help us raise $250,000 by October 31 to make sure no one goes hungry and no one has to sleep outside this winter!

🛏️Your donation supports additional beds and meals this year so we can meet the increased need of our community. We can't do this without you!

If you would like to talk to Rev. Samuel about our plans for this winter or have interest in him coming to present for a group, please reach out at [email protected]. We would love to hear from you!

🎉 A BIG STEP FORWARD FOR DUBUQUE 🎉
Addressing homelessness is now a City Council high priority.

This is an important step forward in recognizing that addressing homelessness requires a community-wide strategy and strong partnerships between the City and organizations already doing this work.

At Opening Doors, we believe every person deserves a safe place to call home. We’re grateful to the City Council for recognizing the importance of this issue and to everyone in our community who continues to advocate, support, volunteer, and work alongside us.

There is more work ahead, but today we’re celebrating progress toward a stronger, more coordinated response to homelessness in Dubuque. ❤️

Thank you, Dubuque, for believing that everyone deserves a place to call home.
