🏡 Gutter Talk: The Truth About Leaf Guards 🍂
We often get asked about leaf guards. Homeowners want to know if they’re worth the investment or just a gimmick. Instead of giving you a sales pitch, we want to lay out the facts. Here are the top 4 questions we get, answered straight:
1. Do they actually work?
Yes—but they aren't magic. A good leaf guard keeps out leaves, twigs, and large debris so your gutters keep flowing freely during a downpour. This protects your foundation, fascia, and roof from water damage. However, no guard can stop 100% of everything forever. Think of them as drastically reducing the workload, not eliminating it entirely.
They aren’t perfect for every home. If they aren’t right for yours, we will just get you set up on a recurring maintenance cleaning schedule instead.
2. What kind do you install?
We specialize in heavy-duty aluminum micro-mesh guards.
Why micro-mesh? Vinyl or plastic guards warp in the heat, and basic slotted covers let too much small debris through. Aluminum micro-mesh is the industry gold standard. It allows maximum water flow while blocking even the tiniest debris
3. How are they secured?
We don't use cheap clip-on guards that blow away in the first major storm. We screw our guards directly into the lip of the gutter and under the roof structure using rust-resistant hex screws. This integrates the guard into your existing gutter system, making it incredibly rigid and wind-resistant.
4. Do they still require maintenance?
Yes, and any contractor who tells you otherwise is lying! While you won't have to scoop handfuls of rotting sludge out of your gutters every spring, a few times a year you might get a buildup of leaves or pine needles sitting on top of the guards. Usually, a heavy wind blows them off, but occasionally they need a quick brush or blow off. The big difference? It is much faster and safer to clean and maintain.
