Not only did I have fun making this, but I had fun arranging it in the face. I bought the big necklace last Christmas for a sister, but it broke immediately. I reset it a little shorter, added some of my Bali, India, Silver, as well as some smaller onyx beads to make it a complete set.

Back in the early 90s, I saw a watercolor on the back page of a magazine in a doctor’s office. I didn’t know what paintings that I wanted to buy for my new house. i’ve never liked flowered anything and I don’t like Paris Street scenes or mountain range kind of generic stuff. When I saw this, I do immediately what my direction would be for Art for my new home. So I looked up the Artist met up with her and not only did I buy the painting of the door with the climbing rose. I bought several others over the course of time.

Two decades later when I turned 50 and my husband bought watercolor classes for me and I actually came out of the first class with a Painting. Who knew she could paint?

I got a wild hair over the weekend watching the derby/run for the roses and can’t stop painting roses now.

I took a ride through my neighborhood and saw my neighbors arched door with climbing roses over it and my mind went back to that original watercolor. So pictured below is the Carolyn Cohen original and the Vivian Hunny amateur attempt. I think it’s time to take another class or two . I’ll try to paint it again in a year or so and see how I’ve changed.

While watching the Kentucky Derby yesterday, the term “run for the roses” kept going through my mind. I can’t draw a horse, but I can draw a bucket of roses. I should be able to do this because I’m from Louisville Kentucky. Seems like it would be natural instinct- indemic to my soul.

However-I liked this one so well I painted another one.

My version. I knocked this off between loading the dishwasher after dinner and going to bed. I passed my painting table and decided to stop in.

I painted it this morning though. If I can’t paint a real thistle I’ll paint an amorphic one. That’s the story I’m sticking to.

I liked it so well I added it to a page on my 100 day/ 100 mini Painting challenge.

Just for fun.

My husband’s coworker had their second child. We aren’t close so I wasn’t able to find or even find out if they had a baby registry anywhere.
So at the last minute on Sunday night before gifting, a basket with the contributions from all his coworkers, we decided to just go to target and buy something cute. We did that but forgot a card.
So just before going to bed, I came up with us and it is so freaking cute. My husband wants me to make more and mark them.

I don’t know. I see a couple of things I would do differently the next time, but would you buy this?
