The "Skid Road"—where the term "Skid Row" was born. 🛤️🌲
Before trucks and tracks, this was the highway of the woods. Logs were embedded in the dirt and greased with oil or fish guts so the teams of oxen and horses could drag the massive timber down to the water. It was dirty, backbreaking work, and the track itself was known as the "skid road." A gritty piece of language and labor history right here.
